ABS-CBN censors Erap clip with Cory apology
By Jason Faustino
11/23/2009
Giant television network ABS-CBN, which claims to be an impartial station, even packaging itself as a network that is credible and airs all sides of issues, proved its political bias and partiality when the network’s officials rejected one version of infomercials of former President Joseph Estrada which shows the late President Cory Aquino publicly apologizing to Estrada for her role in ousting him in the Edsa II elite revolt.
There was nothing libelous about the ad and, in fact, this same footage of Cory Aquino’s apology had been covered and aired by the same station on the day Aquino gave that apology, yet when this was included in the Estrada informercial, this was rejected by the ABS-CBN bosses, without giving the Estrada camp any reason for their refusing to air that particular version of the informercial.
Sources from the Estrada camp said they were told it took three hours for the network bosses to discuss the acceptance of this video.
In the end, they refused to accept that informercial, but accepted three other versions which did not have the Cory apology included.
The GMA Network, for its part, found nothing wrong with any of the informercial versions and has already started airing all of them.
ABS-CBN’s political bias has been blatantly displayed in their network. It is clear that the network has a strong bias in favor of Liberal Party’s standard bearer, Sen. Noynoy Aquino, whose informercials, running some three and a half minutes each, have been aired frequently.
These Noynoy ads, it is being said, are being aired for free by the network.
