    Setting Angel free
The fantasy-thriller TV series that marked Angel Locsin’s debut on ABS-CBN, “Lobo,” was hailed as the winner in the Teleserye Program category at the 30th Banff World Television Awards in Canada, a prestigious international media event.
The award should serve as a much-needed adrenaline shot for Angel who’s being judged unfairly because she turned down Mother Lily’s offer to be part of “Mano Po 6.”
Angel would love to do the movie but her contract with Star Cinema prohibits her from doing so. She has always been very vocal about her utang na loob to Mother Lily for casting her in “Mano Po 2.” Now it’s time for Mother to give Angel wings and let her fly elsewhere for now. Soon enough, she will fly back to Regal’s turf.

    ABS-CBN Foundation anniversary concert
    Updated July 14, 2009 12:00 AM

Lea Salonga, one of the performers

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI) held a star-studded 20th anniversary concert recently at Meralco Theater dedicated to the donors, volunteers and beneficiaries of the foundation.
AFI, led by managing director Regina “Gina” Paz Lopez, is behind the programs Bantay Bata 163, Bayan Foundation, E-Media, Bantay Kalikasan, Sagip Kapamilya, BayaniJuan and Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig. Each addresses the different needs of Filipino communities, with one common goal. “The mission of the ABS-CBN Foundation is simple. We want to transform the world into a better place for children to live in,” Lopez said.
Ryan Cayabyab, Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, Charice and Dolphy led the performers who paid tribute to the men and women whose passion and compassion have enabled AFI to heal the world for the past 20 years.
The anniversary concert, to be aired on ABS-CBN in August, started with Lea’s riveting rendition of Magsimula Ka followed by the performances of Eric Santos, Rhap Salazar and Makisig Morales. Jett Pangan’s powerful rendition of Magnificent preceded the medley from Audie Gemora, Isay Alvarez and Robert Seņa.
The duet of Rachelle Gerodias and Rachelle Ann Go and Charice’s performance of Note to God brought the house down. Piolo Pascual, Zaijan “Santino” Jaranilla, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Anne Curtis, John Lloyd Cruz, Willie Revillame, Ai-Ai delas Alas and Bernadette Sembrano explained how each program changed many lives through video presentations which preceded production numbers.
Bantay Bata 163 educates and counsels victims of child abuse while Bayan Foundation offers micro-financing for aspiring entrepreneurs. E-Media provides schools with free educational video materials while Bantay Kalikasan is behind the restoration and protection of environmental treasures like the La Mesa Watershed. Sagip Kapamilya provides relief to calamity-stricken areas in the Philippines while BayaniJuan synergizes AFI’s programs to give communities a holistic development.Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig aims to clean the Pasig River in seven years.
