3 Pinoys fight in Las Vegas today
BEFORE pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao steps into the ring against Ricky Hatton, three Filipino warriors will showcase their talent today at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
ALA boy Mark Jason Melligen, Michael Farenas and Dennis Laurente will be seeing action on the same fight card that will be headlined by the battle of undefeated World Boxing Council No.1 contender Urbano Antillon and Tyrone Harris.

Melligen, who was successful in his US debut against Gerardo Cesar Prieto last March, will be facing a more formidable opponent in US-based Mexican Ramon Montano.
Montano was one of Pacquiao’s sparring partners when he was preparing for the David Diaz fight.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said Melligen has been doing well in his preparation for his debut fight in Roger Mayweather’s gym and Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas.
“We are anxious about his fight on Saturday because this will dictate the future of his career,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star in an interview.
The 23-year-old former amateur standout will have Edito Villamor, Tony Martin and Dr. Ed de la Vega in his corner.
“There is no reason not show what he can do. He is a good puncher and has good defense. If he follows the game plan, then he will be fine,” said Aldeguer.
If Melligen wins against Montano, ALA Promotions will schedule him a fight in Cebu then fly him back to the US to continue his campaign there in the light welterweight division, a weight class that is very marketable in the US.
Future
“His future depends on the outcome of his fight. It depends on how he performs. If he performs well and wins impressively, then we will try get him a contract with Top Rank,” said Aldeguer.
Melligen has a record of 13 wins and a defeat with 10 knockouts, while Montano has 17 wins , six losses and two draws with two stoppages.
Farenas (24-2-2, 21 KOs), the protégé of veteran World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa, will face former world title contender Walter Estrada (35-9, 24 KOs), while Laurente (30-3-5, 16 KO’s) will fight unbeaten Marvin Cordova Jr.(20-0-1, 11 KOs).
