Mombasa and Kisumu might as well be on different continents. Kisumu is right on the edge of Lake Victoria--it makes for a dramatic view when the plane circles for a landing. One gets a really good view of the lake, the city on the edge of the lake, and the mountains in the distance. Kisumu is the gateway to Western Kenya and the tea and sugarcane plantations that dot the landscape as well as villages and towns in and around Western Kenya. On the other hand, Mombasa is more tourist-oriented, more busy and decidedly hectic compared to Kisumu. The contributions from different cultures are evident here: the food, architecture, and enteretainment are definitely eclectic.Originally Posted by livewire
