Back here in Bohol, I feel safe. It's not about comfort zone but I guess its about the culture back here. Even if we're all Filipinos, it cannot be denied that each province has its own unique culture, and ours is one of the best. Where else can you text on a public place like a street without worrying that you cellphone might get snatched

Question Crime rate dropped, except RAPE... Ngano kaha?

All crimes in Cebu City continued to drop, except rape. Why do you think so? Share your opinions.

    -------------------------------

    All crimes, except rape, drop

FOR the last two years, crimes in the city continued to drop based on the comparative crime statistics report of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

They recorded fewer cases of murder, homicide, physical injuries, robbery and theft. Only the rape cases increased during the past 24 months.

The statistics covered the periods July 2006 to June 2007 and July 2007 to June 2008, the period to be examined for this year’s Annual General Inspection (AGI).

Inspectors from Camp Crame are expected to arrive this month in Cebu and other parts of Central Visayas for the AGI.

Police recorded 2,462 crimes from July 2007 to June 2008. That meant that for every 1,000 residents in the city, at least three suffered from crime during those months. (In its report, the CCPO pegged the population at 791,691 for both periods.)

The figure is also 1,245 crimes fewer than the cases in July 2006 to June 2007, when the police recorded 3,707 crimes. Crime volume dropped by 33 percent, the official
    report said.

Out of the 2,462 crimes, 1,993 of these were considered solved, for a crime solution efficiency of 81 percent.

For July 2006 to June 2007, 2,329 crimes were considered solved, out of the 3,707 cases—meaning the police solved about 63 percent of all cases for that period.

The police solved the most crimes in March 2007 and February 2008, with 85 percent of all crimes in those months solved.

While most of the index crimes or crimes against persons and properties decreased, rape cases, however, increased.

From July 2006 to June 2007, 14 rape cases reached the police.

However, from July 2007 to June 2008, 20 rape cases were reported, or a 42-percent increase.

CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador believes more victims have decided to come out in the open and seek the help of the women’s desk to pin down their attackers.

He attributed the drop in all other crimes to the centralized beat patrol, the night watch program and 24-hour mobile checkpoints.

Of the index crimes, theft cases remained on the top of the list.

From July 2006 to June 2007, 1,180 thefts were committed in Cebu City, or an average of 98 cases each month.

For July 2007 to June 2008, that dropped by nearly half, at 665 cases, or an average of 55 each month.

Physical injuries followed in the list with 587 cases from July 2006 to June 2007, and 467 cases from July 2007 to June 2008.

From 495 crimes, robbery cases have dropped to 239 in the last 12 months.

Fewer murder and homicide cases were also recorded.

From 124 murder cases, the figures went down to 93; as for homicide, the cases dropped from 45 to 26, as of June 2008.
