cults would have us believe that salvation is by works, but by the mercy of God towards us, He enlightened us that it is a free gift:

Re 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Eternal life is a person [1 John 5: 12, 1 John 1:2], a gift [Romans 6:23], a present possession [1 John 5:11], a future inheritance [Matthew 19:29] when the saved sinner will be glorified, conformed to the glorious body of Him who saved him [Phil. 3:21], when "this mortal has put on immoratality" [ 1 Cor. 15: 54].

It [eternal life] is also practical living [Gal. 6:8]. When we allow Christ [the Life Himself] through His Holy Spirit to live His life in and through us, when we yield to the indwelling Holy Spirit [when we sow in the Spirit] the result is the abundant life promised in John 10:10.

It is a noticeable fact that cults have no deep and profound appreciation for what Christ did for them on the cross. They are focused on themselves and not on Christ. They rely on self rather than on Christ. Their lives center around their cult leader and not on the peson of Christ.

I have been a member of a cult group before and for almost two years there [and mind you there was a time when I went there daily to attend indoctrinations, visit members, have Bible studies with a prospective member etc.] I did not hear the message about the love of Christ on the cross for me. It is not central [if not absent] in their message. When we have Bible studies, we hop, skip and jump from one verse to another without considering the context of each Bible verse.

We did not understand the message of the book at all. We did not have a systematic exposition of the Bible wherein we studied a book verse by verse. We just echoed and parroted what our leader taught us regarding that verse. No questions asked, some of us took it hook, line and sinker. I hanged on every word that came out of our leader's mouth.

But It was when i realized that I could never realy save myself through my works that I soooo appreciated the work of Christ on the cross. I saw myself as hopeless and helpless with regards to salvation that i had to look away from myself and look for one who could save me. It was then that the blazing truth of the Gospel came with effectual grace. I understood Christ and I got saved.......freely.

Now I do good works not with the INTENTION and MOTIVE to be saved. If there is one thing that i fear most in this life, it is this: THAT I DO GOOD WORKS WITH THE MOTIVE AND INTENTION THAT I MIGHT BE SAVED. I do good works OUT OF LOVE AND GRATITUDE for the Savior who has graciously and freely saved me. I have been crucified with Christ, the life that I live, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God in Christ Jesus, for if salvation is by works, then Christ died in vain.

Let us pray for those who have been victims of cultic preachers.

    as it is written:

19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
    2 Peter 2:19.

    and

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
    2 Corinthians 4:4

    @Ironside
do you know what is water of life mentioned in Revelations 22:17?

What Christ has done in the cross is for our chance to have salvation if we follow him.
Try to connect grace and good works and then you will have a complete picture.
Inyo gigisi ang giingon ni pablo nga:

    Galatians 6:8-10

Most of people believing on grace alone we are saved are using or basing on this verse said by Christ:

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
    John 19:30

Christ did everything because of "It is Finished", let me ask you Mr. Ho_chia and Ironside and even those born-again out there, what is FINISHED? is it our salvation?

But how come Christ said before He went up to heavens:

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    Matthew 28:19-20

What are the Things that Christ Commanded to the early Christians/Apostles? Is it OSAS? or Faith alone and good works is not important but subjective?

Try to read this parable maybe it will enlightened your mind.

1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
    Matthew 20:1-16

That is why Christ will call His sheeps because if by Grace alone we will be saved then no need for Christ to call because wherever you are you're saved automatically.

    as what have Christ told:
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
    Luke 9:23

But if you guys will be asked it simply replies:
Lord puede dili lang mi sunod nimo total by grace we are saved and not by our good works as Apostle Paul mentioned in Ephesians 2:8-9.

To you born-again members "not by our good works" mentioned by APostle Paul are good works they've done before they've known Christ.

Just continue it reading until verse 10 you will see that our good works is not the basis but the good works that prepared by God.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Give you example, Ben Tumbling and Robin Hood in the eyes of many and in the eyes of people they helped will say that they are good people and they have done good works but int eh eyes of God they have done abominations and they should deny theirselves and follow God.

GRACE is the chance to follow Him and all we have to do is to maintain it until the end.

    Peace!

    now dinhi ka sayop dong...

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever i have commanded you.

imong pagsabot ani kay good works ra nga needed harun maluwas ta? hay nako this verse didnt even exclusively mentioned salvation. dong broad kaau ang pasabot ni jesus ani dili lang kay good works kun dili ang tanang mga teaching niya dapat e tudlo.
