Boxing is a blood sport. Its allure stems from its brutality. Karun its still brutal but if you compare boxing now to what it was before, its become more tamed. Thats because fighters are becoming more and more smarter and more technical. Here's where MMA comes in. MMA simply allows fighters to avoid having the fight go to the judges. Its still involves technique but with takedowns and submissions and what not, its a lot harder to put emphasis on a certain technique. Im not saying Mayweather didnt deserve to win, I'd say he won it handily. Im saying for entertainment purposes, unless youre a boxing purist, the sport just isnt as sensational as it used to be. People are more entertained with brutality than technique TBH.

and that sums it up.. what is the difference with pro and olymic scoring system? the idea was that olympic style is by the number of punches landed while pro is the quality of the punches landed.. as per Tom O posted, it's just sad the judges give more credit in Floyd's jabs and pot shots than Manny's telling blows.. if ing-ana naman daw, why would pro boxing score a knockdown as 10-8.. if puntos por puntos, it's same punch that the opponent landed..

but as Manny said, let's respect the decision..

the only way boxing can compete with MMA now is to handicap defensive techniques (like in scorecards) as to make fights more "exciting"...Of course that won't happen.

my personal opinion: I also hated it when the ref broke up their clinching so promptly. Granted there was a lot of clinching, but they were ALWAYS broken up right away. Why was it a bad thing for Manny? He's the shorter fighter. It's actually his advantage in those clinches IF they were allowed to do that for longer periods of time. So the result is PBF can stunt Pac's explosiveness with his short clinches, and not have to worry about being in Pac's reach for too long in those clinches. Daghan kaayo sigeg reklamo sa "hug2x" ni Mayweather, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. If allowed too be prolonged, Manny could have caused some damage. I like Bayless as a ref, but I think he should have opted to have the fighters "fight out of it" instead of breaking them himself (which is traditionally a last resort in reffing). I think that is a pivotal aspect of the fight. Not sure if it would change the outcome, but it would have made the fight more interesting.

I'll also point out that Bayless gave Mayweather the same kind of "protection" when he fought Maidana. Mayweather also got the same treatment when he fought Hatton in 2007 (I forgot who the ref was).

As much as it pains me to say, Mayweather is one of the best, if not the best, boxer in this generation. But his fights are painfully boring. This fight was actually one of his more "eh" fights. The Marquez-Mayweather fight...I'd rather watch paint dry.
