does it matter if you can play the game with max out graphics or not? particularly on your htpc rig? and I'd assume it's paired with a full hd monitor yes?

htpc is paired with a 720p tv.
mao na light gaming ako gi describe kay lower resolution ako tv, dili kaayo taas gpu requirements.
but i also dont need max quality setting for the htpc gaming.

yup i know that my concern with the duals is longevity. thing is if i change the htpc, ill want to run it to the ground. meaning ill keep using it till it dies haron sulit. so id like to have a tiny bit of futureproofing (lack of a better word). i dont really want nga ma apsan ako htpc nga mu require na of multi core ang gaming titles sa future.

i think an A8-7600 will suffice on your htpc rig. You can configure it at 45w sa bios to make it more energy efficient and it's a good upgrade from the GT 430 you currently have. You need to have high freq. ram though and must be in dual channel mode to make the most out of it but besides that, it should be able to handle most modern games fine at decent setting on a 720p screen

Multi-core games? Heh. I wish. Tan.aw nako having a Quad-Core will suffice for a decade still. Alot of people still have dual-cores.

how does an a8-7600 fare against a c2q q8300 +550ti. i think the c2q will consume more power, but performance wise how do they compare?

the A8-7600 should be faster in terms of CPU performance and about the same performance as the 550 Ti gpu wise if paired with 2400mhz ram
