Money is not a joke jud! But you could have made an extra effort to ensure the transaction at the first place.
Here's my tips on Safe online buying
Product information - such as manufacturers warranty and paperwork. Ask if the seller provides warranty and additional paperwork.
Check the payment methods available see if they offer payment/purchase protection or of similar policy. Read the agreement and policy form *which we often skip*
Here is a sample from Paypal.com
"If you buy something that never arrives, or if it arrives significantly different than described, you're eligible for a full refund. Check out our Purchase Protection policy, or learn how to open a dispute." - Paypal (https://cms.paypal.com/cgi-bin/us/?c...yer_protection)
Double check on Bank information for bank deposit and make sure the account itself does match the sellers information. You can ask the bank for the "services available under fraud/scam activity" but I doubt if they give you the personal info's sa account owner itself such as address or others.
Merchants like Gcash, Kwarta padala etc. Double check on their policy.
Be sure to know where it is shipped and from what address. Check the shipping courier or method. Ask the Courier company staffs for shipping and delivery or return process and time-frame, educate yourself with tracking number identification to validate the tracking number if its legit or random number, ask for the hotline or local number for real time tracking and lastly ask if they offer *safety protection for buy and sell transactions or similar.
Since you are dealing with a freelance sellers
It is important to get to know the Seller not just by relying on the feedback's except if you know someone personally that has transacted with them. Communicate with the seller get to know them better and to see if you are comfortable doing business with them. Notice the red flags in inconsistency, abrupt change in decision, introduction of a third party person. You can check by using other number, post as another interested buyer and ask the same questions.
Ask for their primary and secondary contact number (land line # gives you added security unlike mobile which they can just replace *but be sure to validate), address information (house number, street, barangay/town) for format reference visit Philippines/Addressing - OpenStreetMap Wiki or Check on local directory listing .
Possibly track his location using his phone number. I once used SUN tracking number that was 2010 pa. GPS or ask you phone service provider how or you can simply visit this site for Step by step instructions Locating Someone via your Cellphone | juntariman
*Meet-ups
Research sa Seller's information and communication *same with online transactions
If you are not expert or savvy sa product, then bring someone does.
Meet them on public place where its safe to do business.
Dont rush during the transaction.
During the meeting Paraphrase the questions (w/c you had on texts and calls).
Avoid too Good to be True prices.
USE COMMON SENSE
