like you guys, I would like to go to underwater photography. And I also would like to buy a P&S with its casing first kay dako kaayo gasto sa casing for DSLR. Sige ko tan aw sa inyong mga pix sa P&S, so far it's fine with me. I'm choosing between a finepix f40fd or a lumix tz3 for this kind of hobby. Kani lang sa una kay dako pa kaayo gasto sa diving equipment. My DI (diving instructor) suggested to get a canon G7 kaso it's to much for me. What do you think sa akong option?

@jigerxxx - i am not familliar with the cameras you mention except for the canon G7. i suggest you get a P&S camera that has a full manual mode and not just Av & Tv priority. underwater you will need this specially when you dont have much natural light to illuminate your subjects. even with underwater strobe i personally find it better to manually set your shutter and aperture. i think the metering of P&S cameras (not sure with dslr) are in-accurate underwater.

I agree DSLR UW casing is really expensive. Big risk to take DSLR UW. Thats why I prefes P&S.
I would suggest get a casing for the camera u want & enjoy using.
Its better to use a camera you're familiar with.

As what buddy Edwin said, full manual feature is an advantage.
newer model also of P&S cameras have White Balance settings design for underwater.
maybe u can consider this.

For me, I consider factors such as battery consumption & LCD display size.
U can consider getting strobe lights as well.
