The job of a dns server is to translate a domain name like google.com into the corresponding ip address like 72.14.207.99. Internet works with ip addresses, domain names are just for us humans to remember the site (it would be hard to remember ip addresses).
If you can not access ANY domain via domain name, your provider may have a problem with their dns server (like pldt had the last 4 days).
In that case, you have to call your provider.

    Are you using a router?

Right-click My Network Places, select properties, right click your connection, select properties, doubleclick Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
What is written under IP Address, Preffered DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server?
    SoftTouch_ph,

I guess your observation to the problem is correct. Problems like this is merely the cause of the DNS server on the ISP or in your router (if built-in DNS server Servce is enabled).

    DonJenn,

Try kuno og ping una sa imo primary DNS address. You can view your IP settings which also includes your DNS addresses by:
1.Click Start > Run...then enter "cmd" (command prompt would apper)

2.On the prompt...enter IpConfig /all - this would display all your Winodws IP configuration.

Take note of the DNS servers IP address...

    3. Then on the command prompt again.... Enter command - Ping {DNS server IP address}

If it would have a reply of "Request Timeout" then your DNS server is down.

Also, kindly check your NAT configuration. Since you are using the connection to the other unit to share your internet connection.

If you can access google by entering the ip address, but not by domain name, there is a dns problem.
This can be your dns settings OR the isp dns server.
Check your settings as I posted above. If this will not help, you have to call yur isp, no way around it.

Kung "Request Timeout" imo ping sa DNS server...then its an ISP problem. wala ka mahimo ana sa imo end kundi tawag ka sa imo ISP customer support hotline.

they know if there DNS server is up or down.
