    Default builting a new PC

guyz im planning to built a new PC and i could use some suggestions.

    Current setup to be replaced:
    BADAXE2 intel board with dual core 6600 4gb ram 256mb geforce7600GS

    Requirements:
1)must be fast (a lot faster than the 6600 dual core) and super stable setup...running 24-7 (not a server)
2)more builtin SATA ports for hdd the better (minimum of 4-6)
3)more builtin USB ports the better (minimum of 6)
    4)IDE for DVDwriter
5)PCI for expansion (minimum of 2)

    builtin firewire/wifi/bluetooth are also welcome
    i prefer intel setup
i do not plan to overclock as stability is most important to me

    for heavy photoshop use
under windows XP pro (not vista)
    NOT FOR GAMING

@mark, tell you bro to call me up or you call me up, ill help you with what you need. He carries Gigabyte boards man ill let you know which models are good

Quad Core - highest your budget permits and if kaya pa, get a two-proc board, so you get 8 Cores!
If you still need IDE, for For P35 chipset or even farther back a little with Intel 965 Chipset.
2x2GB of Dual Channel rams- (Mushkin, Corsair, OCZ, Kinston for reliability) but you will be able to take advantage of this on a Vista system, sa xp 3Gig ra medetect.
    Video Card: Get a 3870x2 or 2 4850s on Crossfire or 2 4870s on crossfire or 4870x2
    Hard Drives-
Get a Solid State Drive for your OS, Bisan 32GB lang- Super Fast bootup.
Then for your data, get raptors and put them on a raid setup para pas pas gyud.

Case- Since you will have it on 24/7, and you don't want to have problems with heat, get Silverstone Tj09 or Tj10- where the hard drive cage is separate from the system. Airflow Management of this case has a 10/10 score for me.

PSU- Not being biass sine we supply this, but get a Silverstone OP1200 Watts- Google reviews and you will see why I recommend this.

All that being said, it will really depend on you budget

    Hope this helps.

Just curious your Windows XP is the 64-bit version, right?

I've recently read from threads posted here in istorya.net that there is some problems with Win XP (32-bit Version) and 4GB or more of RAM. Win XP (32-bit Version) can only see something like 3+ GB NOT the whole 4GB.

just thought i'd share my setup since this is also running 24/7 for rendering.

    HEC Winpower 550W
    Core 2 Quad q6600 2.4Ghz
Gigabyte P35C-DS3R - this has 8 SATA ports and 4 USB back ports and 4 USB front headers
Palit 512MB 8800gt sonic - you can still use your 7600GS
    2GB Corsair xms2 ddr2 800 - just replace this with 4GB ddr2 800 Kingston Valueram
    Silverstone FM123 Fan (front intake)
ESata Bracket - comes with the Gigabyte Mobo and has 2 esata ports
    1x 500GB Seagate Sata2
    1x 250GB Seagate Sata2
    2x 80GB Seagate Sata2
    Liteon Lightscribe DVD writer

    20" Philips 200WS LCD
    17" Samsung 793DF CRT
    4x5 Wacom Graphire4
running on windows xp pro 64bit. drawback to the mobo is that it doesn't have built in firewire and bluetooth.

you can use 4Gb of ram as long as you're running a 64bit OS.

@mark hi nya ko tyrone bai. dugay sad mi wala ka kuyog balik.

    Just a few things ...

2x Quad Core Extreme, if you can afford it.

8GB RAM. 4GB is so 2007. You want stability right?

Vista Ultimate 64 bit. There is no reason not to switch to Vista unless you have applications that specifically require XP. Vista is rock solid. Don't listen to all the haters who don't know what they are talking about trying to run Vista on a 5 year old computer.

Solid state drives. Raptors aren't required since the idea behind SSD is you'll be installing all your apps and running them on it ... while the other drives are for storage. You'll probably be limited by your CPU if you plan on running data intensive apps anyway, not your HD. Size over speed when it comes to secondary drives. 1TB drives aren't too expensive anymore.

If your data is important to you, Raid 1+0 is a must for your storage drives. The next step would be to sign up with an unlimited online backup solution. I personally use Online Backup, Data Backup & Remote Backup Solutions from Mozy.com ? Welcome. But there are others such as Carbonite. Under $5 a month, unlimited storage. I have over 50gigs backed up online.

A quiet case. I use an Antec Sonata. Only problem is that the Antec Sonata is a mid tower and doesn't have much room. That is why I use lots of network storage. If you find a quiet full tower, tell me.

A big screen. At least 24". There was a study a while back claiming that bigger screens = more productivity. I wholeheartedly agree. I use two 24" NECs. Dell sells nice 24" monitors, but the one I wanted from them were almost 700 dollars a piece ... so I went with two NECs for 450 a piece. You aren't gaming anyway, so performance is less of a problem than something that is comfortable to the eyes.
