THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered to ban in the Philippine market 16 cosmetic products imported from China.
The FDA declares that the cosmetic products are unsafe and pose imminent danger or injury to consumers because they were not manufactured in compliance with the standards and requirements of the Code of Current Good Manufacturing Practice; and orders their ban or seizure from public sale or distribution, said the FDA.
Based on FDA Advisory No. 2013-019, it has also ordered its personnel to immediately remove the products from the market to prevent more people from consuming them.

The FDA said the ban is being imposed as these products are suspected of containing levels of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic that are beyond the allowable limits.
Continuous use of these products may cause adverse or allergic reactions that can result to severe or irreversible skin problem, said the FDA.
Meanwhile, the FDA continues to advice the public to only use products that are registered with the government in order to be assured of their safety.
The FDA added that it would be best if the consumers would carefully read the labels of the cosmetic products before buying them. (HDT/Sunnex)
