REP. Manny Pacquiao may be willing to ignore Floyd Mayweather Sr.’s latest round of trash talk, but his fans at the Cebu City Council have had enough.
Councilor Edgardo Labella Sr. will submit a resolution asking the council to denounce the “offensive, disrespectful, bad-mannered and indecorous statements” Mayweather Sr. uttered.
Negotiations for a much-awaited fight between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao again collapsed this week, even if the Filipino star agreed to terms the Mayweather camp had set. The Mayweathers kept tight-lipped until the deadline for their decision lapsed.
“The Mushroom Mag” website quoted Mayweather Sr. as saying his son wasn’t afraid of Pacquiao, “that little Filipino midget” and “one of the biggest faggots on the planet.”
Pacquiao merely laughed when told about the comments. Pacquiao will attend his first session as a member of the House of Representatives tomorrow.
Although Pacquiao’s cool-headed reaction “genuinely reflects a dignified statesman and a highly regarded sportsman,” Labella said Mayweather’s slurs should not go unchecked.
“Considering that the aforementioned statements were made, not only against a renowned World Boxing Council welterweight champion, but a respected member of the Philippine House of Representatives, a stern warning, if not reprimand, must be deemed only appropriate against the multiple insults, many of them untrue, uttered by Floyd Mayweather Sr.,” Labella said.
If approved, copies of Labella’s resolution will be sent to the United States Embassy in Manila, Pacquiao and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Last year, Mayweather Sr. also accused Pacquiao of taking steroids or performance-enhancing drugs, after the Filipino won his record seventh world title in as many weight categories.
Pacquiao, also the recognized “pound-for-pound” boxing king, filed a libel, slander and defamation lawsuit last Dec. 31 against Mayweather Sr. in Nevada, USA.
