Nice! I'd cut the pieces into different panels so you can save polycount when making those details. Don't be afraid to break up the geometry. I remember Optimus Prime had 10k plus geom parts in TF2...

Oh yeah I remember watching Gumby back in 3rd or 4th grade (1991-1992)and it really kicked my imagination. I wanted to mess around with those cheap and messy clay from national bookstore....
