I agree with that pero....in the first place, if you want to get good and PROFESSIONAL looking results. You have to hire a very good looking model. If you have an ugly one then you will always get ugly bisag unsaon nimo lighting og pa angle angle og pahiyak hiyak og pose. You can improve them by doing all the techiques BUT you can only do so much with what you have to work with. You cannot change bronze to gold. Glamour images .. "magazine quality" use photoshop...all the glamour photographers(people who shoot for playboy and penthouse mags ) here in LA photoshop the hell out of their images. All the beauty images in magazines?....all of those are photoshopped. You have to accept the fact that the new amazing photographers NOW have really good editors....or they learn to edit by themselves.

It's very very easy to get "good" results kung gwapa ang model...
everyone does photoshop at one point.. pero ako lang is people get lazy and just "fix it sa photoshop".
para nako ha.. photoshop (aside from basic retouch[removing blemish and such]) is use to enhanced the feeling or the story of the image.
example lang, kung let's say naay pa picture nimo.. nya okay2x rah (let's not say nalng bati kay lu.oy) then imo usabon ug maayo nya mo ana siya "ako pah nah?" or if iya i.frame sa house then ang iyang mga friends or relative mo ingon ug "kinsa nah?" di buh ma lain ang kana nga client nah wa nai maka ila niya sa picture? as a photographer ma affected pud ka ana.. then let's compare it kung gi tarong ug shoot + right amount of PP then mo ana ang maka kita sa pixs "oh [name] ur so pretty here.. " <-- usually those kind of question mo follow up gud na ug "kinsa ga shoot" which is a + point for the photographer.
I don't know if tig watch mo kanang mga next top model shows... but not all of them are gwapa.. like in AMTM cycle 14 duha ra man ako na gwapahan.. pero tanawa pag photoshoot nila, if maka glimpse mo sa screen pag shoot and the after image.. gamay ra gud ang difference..
okay you are talking about personal portraits... I shoot that too. I don't do as much as photoshop to that type of image since it's portrait for regular people. BTW.. this thread is for Glamour and Fashion
samples of my recent portraits.. just adjusted horizons, cropped, and levels...finish

It is different like what you see in Americas top model...those models are picked because of their body framework and the look....high cheek bones, defined jawline. With fashion...important thing is the product you are selling. And when they shoot... it's also the stylist and the make up artist who makes it. That is the reason they look good in photo. I have shot with working models who looked so plain in regular life but when styled and with a really good make up artist...they would look like supermodels... plus the models attitude.
BTW.. when you say "right amount of PP" ... that is very subjective. There are a lot of different photographers who have their own version of"right amount of PP". There is NO RULE. It depends on the client's taste (clothing company or designer). Photographer's get hired base on their style. If everybody has the same style then photography will be boring.
