Hmmm... Where do i begin? there is so much information to be given.... lets begin from the basics... herbal DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN SAFE
that said.. there are a lot of herbal alternatives when it comes to the ever present problems of ticks and fleas...and fortunately for us there are several which are readily available in the country. First and most popular i think is Citronella. First the precautions... all of these must not be used on pregnant animals, and sick or debilitated animals.
Citronella has been known for its Anti-mosquito properties for some time now; what is not known is that it has the same effect on ticks and fleas. another and although veryyyy tasty to us very unpleasant to the same parasites would be lemon grass... or tanglad... but these are not the only plants that can be used for the prevention of ticks and fleas.there are numerous herbal oils and plant matter themselves which can be used for natural alternatives to the chemicals that are present today.here is a simple recipe that can be used fro a natural flea repellent spray which is dabbed on certain partsof the dog and then the dogs coat is brushed to spread the oil throughout the body.
BUT AS WITH ANY MEDICINES THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS THAT CAN BE SENSITIVE (I.E. ALLERGIC) TO THE OILS ESPECIALLY CITRONELLA...SO USE THESE RECIPES AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1 part citronella oil
1 part cinnamon oil
1 part lemon oil
1 part lavander oil
1 part rose germanium oil
carrier oil ( can be any EDIBLE oil)canola, corn, olive, peanut sesame ,soy, sun flower,or almond
*choose any three oils and blend with an equal amount of carrier oil.
*EXPERIMENT!-these are suggestions let me know which work for you.
*parts can be any quantity 1 drop, 10 drops. 3ml 5ml etc... just use the same amount for each
*carrier oils are there to dilute the essential oils as if they are used in pure form can be to strong and can have NEGATIVE effects
hope this helps a little ... try it out then let me know
Gills
there are herbal alternatives which is as effective if not better than ectodex or demadex... but as with all medicines its also HOW we use them.from all the suggestions ive read here int his string... my thoughts are not all your dogs skin problems where mites....as most of the treaments reffered here would not be effective for a bad case of mites. what you have to understand is that KAGID is to general a term here in Cebu and could be any one of MANY diseases... any where from an allergy to full blown case of mites (these are the more commmon ones) but there are numerous causes of the disease known as kagid. So the Question is : HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. The Answer?. Go see your friendly neighborhood Veterinarian. We have different tests we can do to identify exactly what the problem is. then depending on the problem.. the treatments can be very different. and if your still not happy with the diagnosis get a second opinion.
if and only if the problem is mites then there is a plant that has been shown to be very effective for both types: sarcoptic and demodectic mange. the plant? cacauate or MAdre De cacao.
i can also say madre de cacao is effective, basing on experience.. what we do is we crudely grind leaves with a mortar and pestle and apply the resulting paste on the areas with kagid..
is there an easier way to prepare madre de cacao though?
ahak naa pud kagid amo iro.. naa pa gyud dapit sa ear.. nya baho kaayo...
Best way to prepare Madre de cacao is to boil the fresh leaves for 10-20 mins in water then let cool and apply the resulting mixture as a last rinse to your dog for mange treatment. no need to rinse any further.....![]()
