    Exclamation weird network/LAN card problem

I am having trouble with my network/lan card.. a few days ago, it started to get annoying.
It would say that the network is connected at 100 Mbps (which is normal), but the 2 screen icons in the system tray don't light up. When that happens, the internet is down.
But if I "right click> repair" it while opening a web page, accessing anything online, i get to access it.
And once I signed-in a program or opened a web-page, I will not have problems with it for several minutes, until I have to do the "right-click>repair-while-opening-or-accessing" thing when the 2 screen icons turn off again. And, i have to do that too when I want to access a new domain/sign-in another program.
    Very annoying.
So i decided to reformat my computer, thinking it was a virus or something. Turns out I still have the same problem. My drivers installed fine, etc. There are no errors, etc, that Windows can detect.
can anyone tell me what is wrong?

problem can be coming from modem or network port, its also a good idea to consider the cable as an issue. start by doing any the following steps...

    try another ethernet cable
check the network port for damages from both ends

now, when you said you're able to access websites while doing a repair, try this:

ping your gateway then open a website or just surf around, if you're able to do so, you may need to contact your ISP as this could be coming from the modem.

i think the ISP isn't the problem, we have a wireless router, and we could connect fine through WiFi on the laptop/phone. I tried connecting directly to the modem, no luck there (but i'll try again later).

does this mean that you're connected using a cable? try changing ports in your router.

I haven't tried changing lan cards yet, and our lan card now is built-in, so I don't know how to remove it.

I also already tried changing ports in the router.

It's almost like it's "choosing" which sites to open.. Like right now, I can open iStorya, Google, and a few other sites with almost no problems.. but other sites just can't be accessed.

have you tried a different cable?

try setting your speed and duplex to "10mbps half duplex" if it's set to "auto"...

if you want to try this, right click on your LAC icon on your systray, go to properties, click on the "configure" button, then go to "advance" tab, then choose "speed and duplex" or "link speed and duplex" or in some devices, this can be "network type" as well... if you can see that, left click it once just to highlight it, then at the upper right, there should be a value, try to change it to "10mps hafl duplex" if it's default value is "auto"...

also, you can try using OPEN DNS for your dns... 208.67.222.222 or
    208.67.220.220

I have two cables here, both of them are pretty old, but last time i tried either of them, nothing changes..
i'll try your other suggestion later, I'm downloading some important files right now, don't want to interrupt them. (yep, once I get to start to download a file, it will have no problems, but I still can't access other sites)
EDIT: just tried your second suggestion, no luck. How do I set the DNS?
is it possible that the LAN card / hardware is the problem? I only have one port for the LAN cable, and it sits together with 2 USB ports. The 2 USB's work fine..
