Well they want to keep what they are doing good without any restrictions from the major labels.
i agree with this! lain man gud once a major laber is "holding" the band, their would lots of dos and dontsOriginally Posted by Big|nimZ
yeah i agree. there are more restrictions with signing with a major record label but what i mean is why is it that the fans hate the bands that go mainstream?
if the band is good, it deserves to be heard. being underground is just an excuse for mediocrity. major record labels are smart, they dont sign crappy "indie" bands, they want someone to get them money, and most likely those are the most talented bands. but that concept is slowly fading away now with stupid pop stars, hip-hop music and all those crap on MTV. bring back the 90s!
That, my dear, is the biggest stereotype out today. "Underground=cool" man gyud kuno.Originally Posted by rasheed_d_weed
Yes, in the nineties talent was at the forefront. Record labels were searching for it.Originally Posted by r/brey

oh please, let's not go there.Originally Posted by r/brey
i don't think this fairly applies to all. i'm not saying all the underground bands are great. but i know a damn lot who are SO MUCH better than those who went mainstream. the list if efng long, i must say.
gotta agree with you shak.Originally Posted by glassjawed_grrl

some bands have an underground fan base who would listen to the lyrics, who would know and experienced and can relate to what the band is talking about... you just can't get that on a mainstream fanbase because with mainstream it's all about POP culture and pa cool. mao na ang pa cool bro... mainstream kay pa cool. dili ang underground.
Some people remain underground because of the reasons stated above (Artistic/Creative freedom) .. bands like Sonic Youth remained underground after all these years... But some do get signed maintaining their freedom from writing their own music and following their direction.. these bands are lucky.
Pero thing is... being backed by a huge label, a band will always feel the pressure of "selling" their sound or else they're gonna get dropped by the label.... Major backing has its pros.. the big budget with recording and marketing... plus the expenses with touring and the opportunity to front big acts on big ass stadiums. It beats having to produce and record your own music, making your own pins/buttons/stickers, printing your shirts, have your friends doing the street marketing and playing at small bars and pubs while selling your home-made demos by the door.
Pero the PA-COOL factor... that's just the shallow part of the whole thing... things that I don't pay attention.. (and hope everyone ignores it just as well).
Why pamper life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?
if you think about it, this underground thing is fairly new. a product of the last decade, i've read somewhere. it said it started nowhere else than the place of grunge, seattle. and all this accussations of sell-out this sell-out that. its stupid. but you gotta agree there are sell-outs. but when you wanna have a band you'll want three basic things. you wanna be heard, first and foremost. you want money or fame to continue the band. lastly, you just wanna play music. this band i know has this emo indie things going on in their heads(influenced by current trends and what they read in music magazines) they discriminate against other bands a lot. its sucks hearing about it. all i can say is this, if you're good, most likely you're gonna be famous and lots of people will hear your music which is perfect in my opinion. I'm starting out a band and I want the world to hear our music. i dont appreciate bands who make music specifically for their own people. its selfish and its stupid. music should be enjoyed by all.
just wondering about this indie-sellout thing. you ever notice why no one is pointing fingers at the classic bands for being sellouts? lets say The Beatles or Lez Zep, those bands are in major labels, they are famous worldwide and they release one or two sometime more albums a year. why isnt anyone accusing them? one answer: because they're good and they're legends. they make good music and people love em. thats why.
sorry for the long rant. i'm gonna get the link of that article now.
