Well, I never got the chance to go back to this restaurant to tell them what I thought of their food (especially when compared to what it was supposed to be... in Korea and what was pictured on the menu).
Since we are leaving soon and will not get the chance I will post about it now.
For take out, I ordered a large "Bulgogi" (Beef) and a smaller "deji Bulgogi" (pork, which is a spicier dish).
When we got home it was surely dissapointing and frustrating. I purposely ordered those two dishes because they are supposed to be meat dishes. We would have our own rice at home. What we got instead of bulgogi was more like chap chae, it was also drowned in gochu jang (red pepper sauce). There may have been about 5 small strips of beef in there. That dish is supposed to be barbequed beef sirloin stips.... 90% or more meat. We had about 2% meat. This dish cost about 500 pesos for a bunch of noodles and a couple of vegetables in sauce.
The other dish that we ordered deji bulgogi s supposed to be strips of lean pork with a few vegetables in gochu chang for spiciness, we got about 8 small strips of 75% fat pork (at least I hope it was pork) with mostly vegetables drowned in sauce. This dish cost about 300 pesos.
The only thing that was good was the kimchi, and I have never been to a Korean resto who screwed that up.... it would be like mcdonalds screwing up a simple hamburger.
There was only one Korean person there (the manager) and he spoke about 2 words of English. I am not sure how he communicates with the staff. He however, was not the one who took my order. I know I specifically ordered what I mentioned above and I even pointed to the pictures so the waitress would get the order correct.
I should have known better to order anything since it was already dinner time and the place was empty. It is probably just a hangout for Koreans to drink soju late into the night and not care about how the food tastes.... because they are probably too drunk to notice. Or maybe that should be a rule for everyone before you eat the food this restaurant.
The reason I put off this post was because I thought I would get back to that area and have the exact name of the restaurant.
I do remember it had a large banner outside with two words only ... Seoul Restaurant. I really do not that this restaurant has any affiliation with the "Seoul of Korea" Restaurant that others had mentioned. I believe that they had not been in business very long at the time of my first post. Hopefully for all, they are no longer in business.
Harsh but as I write this, It brings back those feelings of getting ripped off. Don't even bother going to this restaurant. I would rather eat Ramien noodles from a package (even the instant variety), it is surely much tastier, and you will probably get more meat (even if it is dehydrated).
Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better now.
Now if you want a better experience with good Korean food, why not try Hanggang Korean Restaurant in Pusok, Lapu Lapu on the Quezon National Hwy (located not too far before the entry ramp to the new bridge... going back towards Cebu City).
The food is prepared and cooked by a family of Koreans and you can taste the difference. We had "authentic" bulgogi and bibimbap.
Delicious, I would return to this place to eat anytime. Try it yourself.
I wish I would have tried more Korean restaurants here in Cebu. After the bad experience at the korean resto at Country Mall in Banilad, it kind of turned me off to trying new Korean places. I would just stick to Hanggang. Nonki (japanese) has been our "regular" place to eat out at since it opened it's Jr branch in SM. You can't beat their Tempura/Sushi set at 280 pesos.
I was hoping that the new Korean place opening soon in SM (near Mang Inasal) would be finished by the time we left, but it looks as though it will not be.It's nice to have Thai, Japanese, and Korean food available so conveniently close to each other ( eenie meanie miney moe)
guys, have u tried sa korean restaurant? any comments, food nga ma recommend? im quite afraid to try kay basin puros hang ila food.
there are a lot of korean restos in the city, which exactly are u referring. all korean foods are good as long as they are made fresh, not all korean food is spicy. for me bulgogi, galbi, chap chae and gimpap, are some of my favoites, u should try it sometime
k. tnx but reasonable bah ang prices? compared sa japanese restos?
bulgogi ang lami, medyo mahal ang korean but comapred sa japanese, mas mahal ang japanese
Gimbap,Kimchi chigae, budea chigae, kamja tang, bibimpap, galbi tang, chukimi, pajeon, anjuwa, ojirobta, tartari..lami au ni mga Food..I tried this one when I goto Korea..the Best dyud
