    Default acid reflux hyperacidity

    have any of you experience?
did u use proton pump inhibitors like protonix acephex nexium, etc.
i read this can cause addiction because if u stop ur stomack produce more acid when u stop taking the drugs.
u have no choice but to continue or else suffer.

The term for that sir is GASTRO-ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE (GERD).

It occurs when gastric acid reaches your esophagus creating a burning sensation which they call HEARTBURN, mura kag makafeel ug heart attack sa kasakit.

sakit jud kay ni xa but you can treat it naman especially when you know the cause.

first have yourself examined by a specialist coz you might have H. Pylori (Helicobacter Pylori)
    - if you have this bacteria in your tummy, Ginoo ko, bisan pag usa ka truck nga H2 BLOCKERS or PPI imo tumaron mubalik ra japon na. In that case, you need the following medications for ONLY 1 WEEK to erradicate the said bacteria.

    Med. 1: Co-Amoxiclav 1gm tab. - 1 tablet 2 x a day (14 tablets all)
    Med. 2: Clarithromycin 500mg tab. - 1 tablet 2 x a day (14 tablets all)
    Med. 3: Omeprazole - either 20mg 2 x a day or 40mg OD (14-20mg tabs or 7-40mg tabs)

    - avoid eating too much. the fuller your stomach is, the faster is the gastric acid production and secretion.

    - don't smoke.

    - avoid alcoholic drinks.

    - avoid acidic foods and drinks (coffee is considered one of the most acidic drinks ok? ph is at... hmmm... same as vinegar or lower pa man tingale)

hope this helps. sorry gabinisaya jud ko kay im so sleepy na

The_Pharmacist, is that triple treatment the standard first-line therapy in the Philippines? Ngutana lang ko coz I'm out of the loop as far as new regimens for H. pylori. I've never encountered any study just doing the 7 day treatment. All studies so far have done 10-14 day trials. In the US, standard treatment is a 14-day combo-pack called PrevPac (Prevacid/Amoxicillin/Clarithromycin). It comes in a compliance package, so mas convenient for the patient. Another treatment used is Helidac Therapy. I've never heard of co-amoxiclav being used. H. pylori does not seem to be penicillinase-resistant, so amoxicillin is sufficient. Most cases, I think, result from clarithromycin resistance more than amoxicillin resistance.

Anyways, ngutana lang ko. Of course, some doctors do their own thing, and experiment with their own treatments.

Anyways, with regards to GERD, it is a lifestyle-caused "condition". I wouldn't call it a disease, per se, in most people. Pinaka dako man gud nga impact ana is lifestyle modification. Mao gyud na ang long-lasting solution. Stuff like antacids or proton pumps will NOT CURE it. Naay mga tawo, naay physiological stuff going on with them that predisposes them to GERD and some have hypersecretory conditions nga ga contribute sa GERD, but for you and me (and most people), it is really brought on by our lifestyle. Kapoy na i-explain dire, i-google search nalang.
