• A new Spanish bar and lounge opens in Cebu

Spanish cuisine is comprised of many iconic dishes. It is known for paella, tapas, and churros. A lot of restaurants are inspired to bring a taste of Spanish cuisine to Cebu.

The newest addition to Cebu’s food scene is Que Pasa Tapas Bar and Lounge. The idea of a tapas bar came from Kyle and Billy Wong. They were inspired by their trip to Spain. During their trip, they discovered the beauty of pairing tapas with fruity alcoholic drinks. Their vision is to stay true to the Spanish heritage of tapas while adding a tasty twist. At Que Pasa, Spanish recipe tapas are infused with Cebuano flavors. This fusion aims to make the dishes more familiar to customers. They also serve a selection of drinks. Staying true to Spanish cuisine, they offer sangria.

The name was inspired by the Spanish phrase for “What’s up?” It was taken from their Spanish friends who used the greeting all the time. This is equal to the Bisaya phrase “Unsa’y ayo?”, or “Kamusta?” in Filipino. The owners of Que Pasa, the Wong, and Leano family, wanted to make it something that Cebuanos can relate to.

Chefs Paul Marco Samson and David Cruz are the heads of the culinary team behind Que Pasa Tapas Bar and Lounge. Chef Paul Marco Samson is the Regional Consultant of Nestlé Philippines. He also co-owns two restaurants in Manila. Chef David Cruz is the Business Development Chef for GMA. With the skills of these two visionary chefs, Que Pasa will surely excite the Cebuano palate.

Que Pasa Tapas Bar and Lounge is at Nivel Hills, Cebu Veterans Drive, Lahug, Cebu City. They are open daily from 5 PM to 2 AM. (Janna Yuvallos)
