• Last Call for Entries for First Visayan Music Awards

The Visayan Music Awards or VizMA, produced by the Sacred Heart School for Boys Batch 1985 Foundation, Inc., is the first and only Visayan music awards night and songwriting competition in one event. It will be an annual campaign to honor significant artists and important achievements in the Visayan music industry.

In its inaugural event, VizMA is accepting original song entries until today. Entries can be in any genre and any Bisaya dialect. English can also be used as long as the lyrics talk about the Visayas region – its people, places, food, and culture. Rough demos may be submitted at www.visayanmusicawards.com.

The competition will have a Board of Advisers composed of industry professionals to ensure that the rights of the songwriters are protected, the competition is fair and of the highest standards, and the songs are well promoted. The Board of Advisers include world-renowned Filipino musician and National Artist for Music, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab; Filipino-American rapper, songwriter and record producer, Apl.de.Ap; Cebuano OPM songwriter and recipient of the Awit Award for Best Ballad Recording, Jimmy Borja; music publishing director of Universal Music Publishing, Evelyn Seale; and songwriter and music licensing manager of House of Tunes Music Publishing, Christine Bendebel.

Winners will be announced on July 27, 2019 at Oakridge Pavilion, Mandaue City. Prizes include Php100,000.00, full song and music video production, and distribution.

VizMA aims to build, grow, and nurture a community of artists across Visayas and Mindanao. It embraces all types of genres from pop, rock, R&B, reggae, hip-hop, folk, among others. Various singers and songwriters have already expressed their support for the competition including Karencitta, Morissette Amon, Juan Karlos, Janine Berdin, Franco, and Urbandub.
