• Engaged!

Hello iSTORYAns! In case anyone missed me here, I’d like to apologize for not being able to update my column as much as I’d want to. I’m sure you understand how crazy things can sometimes get once you’re buried neck down in work and with other extra-curricular activities. Though, here I am and still on a mission to entertain you with this LOVE column of mine.

      content/attachments/5886-makeityourring-diamond-engagement-rings1.jpg

No, despite the title, I want to make it clear that I am not engaged. However, this whole article will revolve around the topic. So for those of you “allergic” to that topic, please feel free to browse other articles which might be of interest to you. If you’re still on my page – that’s great. Let’s get started.

Why oh why am I writing about this? Well, I’m in my mid-twenties, remember? And although we can be engaged, get hitched and all that at any age that we please, it just so happen that a lot of my friends who are also in their mid-twenties have gotten engaged just recently. So you can’t blame me for thinking about this kind of topic right now.

So, I have a friend in the States who proposed while he and the girl were both wasted. People have been sending out their congratulations and best wishes to him on Facebook, but according to him, that doesn’t count. He is not exactly engaged, but still remains good friends with the girl. So as of this writing, that friend of mine is still an eligible bachelor who might move back to the Philippines really soon. So if you’re interested, let me know. Wink, wink.

Moving on to real engagement stories, I recently attended a friend’s engagement party and I realized how I love hearing about proposals, wedding plans and all that jazz. I can’t help it, I get giddy over my friends love lives like I do with my own.

Anyway, among the many, there’s this other couple I know who are also engaged. As expected, upon hearing about their engagement, I say, “Yay! So happy for you” ask about the big day and etcetera. Well, the bride-to-be was thankful for my enthusiasm. Though according to her, not everyone is as happy as I am for her upcoming wedding.

Well, of course, there will always be people who will warn you not to get married just yet and that you should enjoy life as a single person before becoming someone’s other half. They are older, have been there and done that and they only mean well. But I believe that it really depends on the couple. For them to have made the decision to get married, I’m pretty sure they already know what they’re getting into. But I guess the elders are concerned if they could handle it.

As for my friend, she said YES during the proposal, remember? And that YES would mean that she has enjoyed her single life already and now ready to move on to the next chapter of her life. YES, she is aware of what she is getting into, otherwise, she would have said, “I need more time.”

Based on how I see it, different couples get engaged at different times -- some too young, some old enough and some later on in life. When it comes to our friends, we can give them our advice but we also must respect their decision instead of meddling.

      content/attachments/5887-engagement11.jpg

So the moral of my story, if there is one, still comes from one of my favorite lines – different strokes for different folks. When it comes to engagements that lead to marriage, some are ready while some are not. If they tell you they’re ready, who knows? Maybe they really are. Me? Well, please don’t point that finger to me just yet. If you must know, I am very much in love but we both would like to see the world and enjoy being single together, for now.

Dear iSTORYAns, since we’re on the topic of ENGAGEMENTS, let’s talk about proposals! If you’re a guy, do share where and how you intend to propose to your lady love someday. To the ladies, share with us the proposal that you dream of getting. Don’t be shy. I’m going to give out a little prize to one of you with the cutest answer ☺ Then maybe on my next article, It’ll be my turn to share with you my dream proposal. Wink, wink.

      Love,
      P

Each article is a like gourmet of fun and surprising realizations, relatable experiences for those who are just in a relationship, getting out of it or just into the whole belief that love makes the whole world round!

      About the Writer
Pia is a twenty-something Cebuana that would have been happy to escape the miasma that Valentine’s Day and all that mushiness brings about this time of the year. Except, Cupid decided it was her time and as hokey as this may sound, she got struck by his arrow not so long ago. The result? She’s been literally high on dopamine. So high to the point that she even challenged herself to start a LOVE column with us here at iSTORYA.NET, no less!

Although Pia may still be floating on cloud nine, when both feet are on the ground, she’s one driven office gal who happens to love schedules, deadlines and a fast-paced working environment. She’s also been very passionate about writing and is continuously filling her plate with writing assignment – lots of them. However, a LOVE column was the last thing she thought she’d be doing. Well, you can’t blame her for starting one, since the power of LOVE was allegedly one factor that contributed to her going easy on herself. This self-confessed workaholic has learned when to stop and smell the flowers, when to keep calm and carry on and all that jazz, just about the same time she fell in love. Could there be any connection? We bet. For whatever it is, we here at iSTORYA.NET are more than happy to have an additional delicious dish of love experiences. We warn you though, a slice of Pia Pie will keep you coming back for more!

My partner and I have been living together for 3 years. She's the one who would tell me "may muta ka, so big, but I still love you" or "loooove, can you wash the dishes tonight..oh and throw the trash and don't forget to walk the dogs in the morning sabay hug and kiss from my back" lol...her antiques make me crazy.

Finally...whew! I bought her THE engagement ring 6digits worth. Teary eyed, with my speech, perfect timing, us alone, I asked - "WILL YOU WAKE UP WITH ME EVERY MORNING AND KISS ME GOODNIGHT EVERY EVENING UNTIL MY LAST BREATH?"

She: (her eyes reddening and with her high pitched voice) "You should have told me you're gonna buy a ring!! I don't like the design! Ilang karat ba to?! Tell me! Can we replace this??!!You should have told me that you're gonna buy a ring! I should have chosen what I want...blah...blah..blah"

Me: ahhh...ok love. Let's pick your ring together, we can have it replaced.

She: "Hehe...yes, i'll marry you and oh! We should be partners sa business. Oh! And a joint account! Does that mean our payables are joint too?"

Me: Yes love ko..... (I have bigger debts...*evil smirk*)

If you're reading this baby...you now I love you so much and I have felt your very warm love for me.

We are so used to reading stories about boyfriends taking their girlfriends out on a date, get on their knees and proposed.

We have heard of stories about boyfriends hiding the ring in the cake, ice cream or whatever.

We have seen so many videotaped proposals, all of which are creative. However, I do not think my proposal fall under such cliched categories.

Because technically my fiancee proposed to me when we are not really together. Seriously, we cooled it off for like four days.

I knew he is going to ask me back, but I wasn't expecting it to be through a proposal.

        Anyway, here is the story...

Fiancee hates my uncanny ability to ruin every single planned surprise. No, I am not a mind reader, I just happen to figure out the things he's cooking.

Anyway, it was the evening of July 25, 2011. We already talked the previous night, but there was no mention of him coming to my house or anything.

Therefore, when he called me that evening to tell me that he was outside our house, I was stunned. Literally!

I was unprepared for his unscheduled visit. By unprepared I mean, no bath, no "laag worthy" get.up. I was in my oversized shirt and torn shorts.

So, I went outside and opened the gate for him.

He stepped inside and stopped. Then out of nowhere he held a hand puppet. Then he said ( while making the puppet's head move): "if you are perverted enough, look beneath my skirt"

I was surprised. Nonetheless, I peeked beneath the hand puppet and there it was. A shiny gold engagement ring.

Then he said "Will you take me back, this time forever?"

I was tearing up. I couldn't say anything except nod. I gave him a very tight hug and apologized for the cool-off. It was a mistake from the start.

I have never been with a guy who understands me better than I understand myself.

That was last year, this year, we are waiting for the 28th of July to finally tie the knot.

I'm planning to propose to my GF and marry her on the same night! Seriously, I'm saving up for that dream wedding and it will be at the Seven Suites Hotel Observatory in Antipolo. I went there last year for my friend's engagement (Antipolo City, Rizal: Romantic Dinner Package At Seven Suites Hotel Observatory | Biyaherong Barat) and I was really impressed sa lugar. This is not the usual destination wedding venue because the hotel has a telescope/observatory! The idea of hearing her say "Yes" and later, exchanging "I Do's" with me under the stars is just romantic!
