• Celebrating Creative Cebu with Cebu Design Week 2018

Cebu is a known mecca for artists and designers all over the world. From fashion design, jewelry, furniture, crafts, and cuisine, Cebu has always served as a destination and a safe haven for creative minds that are searching to create unique and innovative experiences.

Known as the “Milan of Asia” for our wealth in furniture craftsmanship and design, Cebu has taken the backseat on the global stage due to the 2008 economic crisis that forced hard times on creative industries. What Cebu Design Week aims to do is to bring Cebu City back to the forefront as a creative city and claim its title.

Cebu Design Week is a project organized by the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines and co-presented by the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Province of Cebu. It aims to bring together the t creative sectors of Cebu through a series of multi-platform events that will serve as a launch pad for creative minds from in the industry to meet, connect, and create new and exciting innovation.

“In the longer term, we wanted to create something sustainable and not just a one term thing. And that’s how we can transform this island from a linear economy, which is produced, consume, dispose, to a more circular economy, where you close the loops by designing products from the very beginning that are meant to be remanufactured and repurposed; maximizing the yield of those raw materials before they go to waste,” explained Butch Carungay, world-renowned designer, and one of the main proponents of the movement.

Cebu Design Week 2018 is on June 16 – 22. There will be various events, exhibits, workshops, and fairs around Cebu.

If you’re interested in taking part of the event through their summer internship program, you may send your resume and application letter to communication.furniturecebu@gmail.com
