• Cebu concludes Design Week

Cebu Design Week, a week-long celebration and showcase of creative economies, concluded last September 15. The week began on September 8 in different satellite events around Cebu. The main event started on September 13 at the IC3 Convention Center. Each day of the week was jam-packed with activities from 9 AM to 8 PM.

The goal of Cebu Design Week is to position Cebu as a destination for innovation and creativity. It abides by 3 C’s: connect, create, and cultivate. Every year, it brings together creative industries in the city and neighboring regions. The whole week is full of collaboration, celebration, creation, entrepreneurship, and education. The main event, Design Summit, took place from September 13 through 15. During the Design Summit, there were daily live performances by local artists. This provided a spotlight for local artists to be appreciated. The Blue Mango Awards were given to the best concepts in exhibits, booths, art installations, and presentations.

The first day of the Design Summit was dedicated to the theme Meaningful Redesign. The theme of the second day was Connecting the Dots. On the last day, the theme was Conscious Creating.

The Design Summit opened the conversation of urban planning, product design, virtual design, performance arts, online influencing, and sustainable practices. There was a Main Exhibit and Makers’ Market, which was a three-day trade fair. This activity highlighted making creativity a business. There was also a Collaborations Exhibit. This exhibit showcased collaborations between two creative industries. It showed the quality of Cebuano talent and artistry.

Other activities included the Creative Festival, affiliate events like the Bamboo Buildathon in SM Seaside City, Art Talk with mural artist Mark Copino, and the Tropical Futures Forum.

The Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc. (CFIF) organized Cebu Design Week 2019. To learn more about Cebu Design Week, visit their website at www.cebudesignweek.com.
