• All set for World Vision Run 2017

To celebrate World Vision’s 60th year of “Caring for Children and Building Sustainable Communities,” the international child-focused agency will hold its annual charity running event World Vision Run 2017 in Cebu on July 16 at the Cebu Business Park.

World Vision Run 2017 aims to help provide sustainable livelihood projects in a World Vision-assisted community in Sogod, Cebu that would establish Community-Managed Savings and Credit Association (CoMSCA) groups, construct a multipurpose building, and provide livelihood start-up kits such as vegetable production, hog or chicken raising, massage therapy, masonry, and food processing.

During the press conference held at the Golden Prince Hotel, World Vision Resource Development Director Jun Godornes shared that the sponsorship will go to the children’s education, health and livelihood for their families like the community-managed savings that they established.

“This program is one way of challenging them to save up for their children’s education which has been practiced for more than eight years which turned out effective. This goes to show that World Vision does not only dole out money but we provide them an investment with a lot of success stories as results,” Godornes said.

Faith Sy, World Vision Program Manager/Cebu Operations also mentioned that one of their beneficiaries in Cebu is a community-based organization called SOGOD (Sustainable Opportunities for Genuine Optimistic Development).

World Vision Run 2017 is in its sixth year. It has five racing categories: Kiddie Dash, 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K to be held on July 16, 2017, at Pescadores Road, Cebu Business Park. Registration fee is at P900 for the 21K, P700 for the 10K, P600 for the 5K, P400 for the 3K and P350 for the Kiddie Dash. Fees are inclusive of singlet, race bib, timing chip, loot bag, drinks, raffle and a finisher medal for the 21K finisher.

It’s the first time to hold it in Cebu; it is a way of going back to World Vision’s roots since the organization supported its first orphanage in the Visayas when they started 60 years ago.

Matteo Guidicelli, World Vision Ambassador, is in full support of the run because he believes in the credibility of the organization which he joined seven years ago.

The rest of the supportive celebrity ambassadors and advocates such as Gretchen Ho, Joyce Pring, Gelili Viktor and other ambassadors will be with Guidicelli to spread more awareness of their advocacy for the children. There will also be fun-filled, informative and interactive booths which everyone will enjoy throughout the event.
