This esteemed event, organized by the Korean Consulate in Cebu, the Korean Association in Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, HALLYU IL, and Y101, will feature 6 vocalists and 34 of the most talented K-pop dance cover groups in the area. These enthusiastic performers will compete for a valuable opportunity to represent the Philippines at the Changwon K-POP World Festival in South Korea later this year.
As a key highlight in the Cebuano K-pop calendar, this year's preliminary event sets a new record with the largest number of vocal contestants yet, showcasing the growing passion and commitment of local K-pop fans.
This year’s event is driven by HALLYU IL, the longest-running K-pop radio show in Cebu— and likely in the Philippines. The program airs every Sunday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM on Y101 and has evolved into a vibrant platform for K-culture, both on-air and in the community. Launched in 2022 by Korean language students from the King Sejong Institute, Cebu, it first aired on Magic 92.3 before relocating to its current home at Y101, which actively supports the Hallyu wave and local creative sectors.
SM Seaside City Cebu has consistently functioned as a center for cultural exhibitions and significant K-pop events in the region. Their steadfast support for the arts and multicultural activities makes them a vital part of Cebu's flourishing K-pop scene.
Adding to the excitement of this year’s competition, 20 remarkable performers from this preliminary will also advance to the upcoming Cebu K-pop Star event, elevating the stakes for all contestants.
Prizes will be generously awarded:
- Champion – ₱20,000
- 1st Runner-Up – ₱15,000
- 2nd Runner-Up – ₱10,000
This event is part of the "Korea-Friendly Foreigners Outreach Project," an initiative by Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Korean Consulate in Cebu is proudly listed as one of its hosts.
