Globe Telecom recently conducted a successful pilot test of its 50GPON (50 Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology, which provides enhanced speed and reliability in connectivity. This advancement supports seamless streaming, accelerated download speeds, and uninterrupted online experiences.
The pilot was held at the Globe Valero Telepark in Makati City, demonstrating the capability of 50GPON technology to facilitate data transmission at speeds reaching up to 50 Gbps. This achievement establishes a new benchmark for broadband connectivity and supports Globe's vision of offering multi-gigabit speeds.
In comparison to the existing 10GPON technology, 50GPON delivers significantly improved efficiency, reduced latency, and the capacity to address the diverse requirements of both residential and commercial customers.
The pilot encompassed comprehensive testing, including throughput, end-to-end latency, and jitter assessments. Additionally, it showcased practical high-bandwidth applications, such as 8K streaming, cloud gaming, augmented and virtual reality, fiber-to-the-room services, and high-definition video conferencing.
James Lim, Vice President for Broadband Service Planning and Engineering at Globe Telecom, stated, "Globe is dedicated to providing Filipinos with the optimal internet experience. This breakthrough in 50GPON technology is a vital component of our forward-looking strategy for broadband connectivity. With this milestone, we are making significant progress toward ensuring our network is equipped to meet the evolving needs of our customers, both presently and in the future."
The 50GPON technology has the potential to transform users' digital experiences while driving innovation in real-time cloud gaming, 8K video streaming, and enhanced smart home solutions. It also creates avenues for advancements in smart cities, telemedicine, advanced manufacturing, e-learning, and secure enterprise connectivity.
Globe is currently identifying potential areas and early adopters for this technology to prepare for future deployment.
Through this latest accomplishment, Globe continues to establish itself as a leader in telecommunications innovation, bridging the digital divide and paving the way for a more connected and digitally empowered Philippines.
