With various new updates and partnerships, GCash offers many methods for making international payments regardless of where you are.*
However, this may be overwhelming initially with the amount of visuals and pop-ups in the digital wallet's user interface. To make things easier, GCash has got you covered.
Here's a comprehensive guide to utilizing GCash for your international payment needs:
Requirements:
Fully Verified GCash Account: Before anything else, you must first have a fully verified GCash account to make international payments, as having a fully verified GCash account also enables you to access more features within the app.
To check if you are fully verified, log in to your GCash > Profile. You can see the status of your account verification here. To become fully verified, you need a valid government ID such as a driver's license or passport.
Active Email Address:
Most methods mentioned below need an active email address. The system will send the invoices per transaction to the registered email address.
(Method 1) Cash In via Global Partners and Remittance Services:
GCash partnered with a handful of global partners for various remittance services, such as cashing into international banks or partners. GCash also provides online remittance claims through this method.*
Log in to the GCash app and navigate to Cash In>Global Partners and Remittance. Please choose your preferred service provider and follow their on-screen instructions.*
Likewise, this method typically involves visiting a partner outlet in your local vicinity to complete the remittance process. Please note that transaction limits and fees can vary depending on the method chosen and the remittance service provider.
(Method 2): AMEX Virtual Pay Card
American Express (AMEX) is a virtual prepaid card linked to your GCash account, enabling you to make online payments locally or internationally. The card functions similarly to a debit card, where you can pay for products or services without the GCash option, as any payments will indirectly be charged to your GCash balance. However, note that this is a virtual card, not a physical one.*
How to Register and Activate Your AMEX Virtual Pay Card
1. Log in to your GCash account.
2. Select "Profile"
3. Select "My Linked Accounts"
4. Select "American Express Virtual Pay"
5. Enter your email address and wait for an SMS to confirm your registration.
How to Use Your AMEX Virtual Pay Card
Once registered and activated, you can use your AMEX Virtual Pay Card to make seamless payments when checking out for any online transaction. Here's how to find your card details:
1. Log in to your GCash account.
2. Select "Profile"
3. Select "My Linked Accounts"
4. Select "American Express Virtual Pay"
5. Once selected, you can see the virtual pay card details.
6. To get your CVV or security code, tap get new code. An SMS will be sent to you shortly afterward. You need to request a new CVV or security code for every checkout.
Note: Conversion rates may differ when making online payments with international parties - thus, a little more than what is reflected in the payment due may be deducted from your GCash.*
This will always differ from country to country. So, you might want to have a little more than the required amount to cover any unexpected fees or currency exchange rate fluctuations.
(Method 3): Alipay
A new way to make international payments with GCash is through Alipay, which allows fully verified users to pay online globally. For context, Alipay is a payment solution for mobile payment apps connected with millions of global merchants, enabling you to make borderless payments regardless of location.
This payment method utilizes QR codes, making transactions quick and convenient by scanning the code to complete your purchase.
How to Make Payments via Alipay:
Please note that this only works for merchants partnered with Alipay. Look for the GCash or Alipay logos at checkout.
1. Log in to your GCash Account.
2. Select QR.
3. Scan the QR code to make the payment. You will have the option to confirm this action within the app.
4. For an alternative option, you may select "Pay abroad with Alipay" to generate your QR code to be scanned by your merchant.*
There are various methods to pay internationally with GCash. If you ever plan to go abroad, you may want to try any of these methods, as they will make payments more seamless and hassle-free.
