Q: PC lagging problem

I got geforce 256mb VC and 700+ RAM but still lagging when i play DOTA or other games.

Q: What do you think is the problem of my PC ??

VC - GeForce FX 5500 256mb

RAM - DDR1 2x = 766mb

MOBO - ASUS X series P4VP-MX-UAYGZ

Processor - P4

btw this PC was in standby almost a year..
Q: over heating of processor cause lag too ? just asking..

Try this.

Download CCleaner and a trojan/adware scanner and remover (of course scan your pc for trojans and adwares or malwares and remove them, use ccleaner to scan your registry and fix it), defrag your harddisk, and unistall useless programs like toolbars and other advertising agents that run on background and always tries to connect online. (If your using Xp manually disable startup programs that you wont normally use and background services that eat up a lot of resources)

Also find the latest driver available for your Motherboard Chipset, Videocard, Sound Driver and other must install driver that your system uses.

Lastly is it really the pc thats lagging? you sure its not internet lag, your playing on Garena?

What kind of P4? if this is the old so-very-hot P4 then, could be. Coz automatic na siya mag throttle if gets hot. But FX5500 could also be the reason.

ill borrow VC from my friends to check if the VC is the problem.

ohh i think VC is broken.. i cant turn my CS to OpenGL even this VC was supported OpenGL.
