I think its been 4 months since i have been practising my forearm stand.

3 months to it, i decided i should try Pressing Up into a Handstand. I do not fancy kicking up into a Handstand as it's too much trial and error for me and decided Pressing Up into a Handtand is the best option.

So my goal this time was to learn how to Press Up to handstand three ways: Puppy Press Up, Straight Leg Press Up, and the Straddle Press Up.

I have always beena self-taught yoga enthusiast, and my resources re: pessing up involves me having to work on Active Pike Compression Exercises. I spend about an hour of these pike copression exercises e.g. lolasana, straddle lifts,L-sits,and Plank Pike Ups. Without any experience of a handstand and With daily practice, i have managed to do a Press Up via Straight Leg and Straddle Press with upto an L-Shape and Halfway. So i am currently working on my balance so i can manage to float to a straight Handstand.

Amazingly! , i have incorporated the Straddle Press and Straight Leg Press Up to my Forearm Stand Practice and Voila! i managed to get it. Pike Compression Exercises does lots in core strengthening and Pressing Up.

Straddle Press is Easier thand Straight Leg Press Up in my opinion.

So!

It's been almost a month since i learned to balance to forearm stand. Since then, i have posted pictures and vids to see the difference as i noticed i need to work on Alignment.

For Forearm stand ,i need to have:
a.) shoulder flexibility b.) engaged core c.) engaged feet

i also need to adjust my gaze (drishti as they call it in yoga) and face the wall instead of between the hands.

The above adjustments require me adjust how i approach my fore arms stand as well.

For posterity (again) i will pose today's practice below:
(One day i will nail it to its straight correct alignment)

For Posterity’s Sake: My Journey to Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Stand)

I started doing yoga in October of 2016. All my yoga activities i learned on youtube. It started from just 30mins. to 45 minutes vinyasa flow with lots of chatarunga’s until i tried one inversion which is the sirsasana (supported handstand which i learned in about a week) that was in December of 2016. That got me interested to know more inversions and arm balances.One particular inversion that i thought i could learn quickly then was the Forearm stand (pincha mayurasana). At around December 2016, i began practising using the wall, and was able to achieve it then. I thought at first ,since i got to do it on the wall, then doing it in the centre of the room would have come just as easy ,but i was wrong. When i tried it, i fell on my face and felt my body is too heavy for it. So i gave up on it and proceeded to be content with knowing how to do the sirsasana, I have been doing 2-hour interval yoga daily ever since with sirsasana incorporated on the asanas. This helps improve core strength among many other health benefits. Also, i have been doing my yoga practices on the boat for 6 months now, and it has helped a lot on building balance during my practice.Along the way, i have been learning some inversions and arm balances such as (in order of progression)

* crow pose
* tripod headstand
* eka pada koundinyasana I
* eka pada koundinyasana II
* fallen angel pose
* flying pigeon pose
* eight-angled pose
* side crow pose
* ghanda bherudasana (chinstand)

On May of this year, i thought, with my daily 2-hour interval yoga, i could prolly try the handstand.So one day i tried practising the handstand and along the way of looking through tutorials for it, that day of May 17, 2017, i happened to view Kino Mcgreggor’s video on Building strength towards forearm stand, i was not optimistic then but i tried it anyway.So, i tried that 30-minute video and felt my shoulder really burning then. When it came to the part of doing the forearms stand, to my big surprise, i was able to hold it with one leg up and the other leg tucked near my chest for 3 seconds. This was at the centre of the room without the help of a wall and props. I did not want it to be just a fluke, so i persist and incorporated the shoulder strengthening everyday on my asana practice. Since then i was able to hold on my forearm stand on two feet up much longer now. The shoulder strengthening sequence worked and i have been trying to build on making my forearm stand better and stay longer since. It isn’t perfect but yoga is not about perfection, its about doing what gives you joy.Here’s a video of the practice.

https://youtu.be/R0cPwBAkoiM

My Takeaways:*Be consistent with my practice. *Do not limit my body to what i can and cannot do. *Be patient. Do not give up on my goal.*Stay safe and make safety my no.1 priority. *Listen to my body and know when to stop.*Build on my strength and flexibility gradually.*Find joy in my practice.Who knows! one day i might be able to do a handstand and incorporate scorpion pose! =PDisclaimeri do not recommend that you attempt any of these poses or yoga exercises without suitable experience and supervision. i offer no medical advice. You should consult a medical practitioner before attempting any exercise and particularly yoga, to ensure that you do not injure yourself. This is particularly important if you are overweight, pregnant, nursing, regularly taking medications, or have any existing medical conditions.

When a Dog shows more concern for a person than a fellow human, something is very wrong with our world - (Actually it has been very wrong for as far as I can remember...)

A good istoryan showed me this link earlier today. Unfortunately couldn't view it at work as access is limited. Finally had the time to check on it today as it is one of those very good videos that have become viral.

Thought this might be a good piece to do for my 2nd blog here as I did promise myself to promote anything that will help get a clearer, truer, and better perspective of animals in general. This is to benefit the animals (and probably us humans).

Please watch the video if you haven't yet and hope this teaches us something =).

PS.

I got no links for youtube so, I hope you guys don't mind clicking on the actual link itself.

To My Istoryan Friend xxxxxx

I read your email earlier this evening and saw your concern for your dog.

First, I appreciate the importance you showed with your pet. Very rare nowadays!

Second, My heart goes out to you for the sad news about your pet.
The doctor may have suggested euthanasia as an option but I would need to ask you some more questions as well.

I am no vet but I have also been into situations where putting a dog to sleep was also an option.

I vowed before never to allow that but there was a situation where suffering is just too much for an animal to bear. One personal rescue had distemper to the point where she can no longer move and ended up paralyzed that the suffering shows in her eyes. That was the toughest (by far) choice we have to make deciding to put him to sleep. I still think and remember that moment and cry every time my memory is refreshed.

On the other hand, i have one other personal rescue who has been paralyzed half way down due to his spine being hit by a bb gun that it got embedded in his spinal column , thus disabling him halfway down his body. The doctor gave the option for reasons that he can no longer walk. The decision was up to us and we made the decision to not put him to sleep.

He has been with us for almost 3 years now, still paralyzed and with a wheelchair and he enjoys life despite his limitations and we are very happy to have him as part of my family.

So there my friend, What I am trying to say is that : It all depends on the situation. How grave and how is He suffering exactly? If he has a hard time standing up, is he moaning of pain? What are the details?

I can say more, but at this point, this would suffice. With the information you gave, I am not able to form a suggestion yet.

Do let me know through pm. I will pray for your dog.

Meanwhile!, I would spend as much time as I can with him and enjoy the gift of life that is your dog! =)

PS

Thanks again =)
