If I may guess, that is another way of calling donated artwork. If you can barely make ends meet, ma-purdoy gyud ka anang kahimtanga.

I believe that from "royalty-free artworks", one can get publicity, obviously when the works are shown publicly. These could turn heads if these are such head-turning works, (hopefully) some of which have the money and the interest to hire or commission you to create other artworks for a fee.

Needless to say, the risk in this is that not as much heads, with the right amount of money and the right level of interest, as you expected, might be turned to your works, if not no heads at all.

    Ciao!

what are your strategies in order to compensate, kay ingon nila basta artist wa kaau ang pangita.
unya dili pa jud ka sikat.. ka dakong dimalas..

if di ka popular, naa man jud manghangyu-hangyu.. esp if they're perception is popular ka, dako og bayad.
kay kung popular... maikog man sad mo hangyo ang clients!

I can't speak for other visual artists, but my own only, okay? I agree that lisud kaayo ang pangita basta artist. Remember how Budoy cried in the confession room with Big Brother exactly because of the miserable economic plight of artists in our country? He may be a funny guy, but I can tell that those tears were sincere, and, honestly, I shed a few myself because of how intimately I know that.

So, for me, unless and until my career in art is that spectacularly paying, making money in art should not be a primary source of income, only a secondary one-- which is why I have a day job and will hold on to day jobs.

However, we've been talking about art commissions only. Companies that hire and pay a regular salary to someone doing art is quite a different story.

    Ciao!

@peg: Royalty free artworks are either advertisements or truly donations to the community. For example, you may want to upload your work to online galleries. This probably will get the attention of talent scouts and you'd be on your way to making real money. As for pricing, I don't know. Some based it on the size of the paper, others based it on whether the art is just pencils, inked, colored, etc. Better research about it before you sign a deal kay basig ilaron lang ka.
