GMA bags 6 nominations and its sister station QTV receives 1 nomination for the Philippines in the upcoming 2008 Asian Television Awards. 54 judges from different tv networks across Asia will decide this year’s winners. The Chairman of the board is Mr. Man Shu Sum from Singapore. Four were selected in the Philippines and they are Ma. Cecilia “Che-Che” Lazaro (The Probe Productions/ABS-CBN), Jessica Soho (VP for News/GMA Network), Laurenti Dyogi (VP Entertainment Division/ABS-CBN), and Nessa Valdellon (VP for Public Affairs/GMA Network). Here are the nominations received by GMA Network: 1. Camera Cafe for Best Comedy Program 2. Bubble Gang for Best Comedy Program 3. Lovely Day for Best Children’s Program 4. All Star K! The One Million Videoke Challenge - Best Game or Quiz Program 5. Ogie Alcasid for Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress 6. Michael V. for Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress QTV 11 received 1 nomination: 1. Reunion for Best Reality Program On the other hand, ABS-CBN also received 1 nomination: 1. Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus for Best Adaptation of an Existing Format In 2007, the Philippines was honored with 14 nominations. 10 from GMA and 4 from ABS-CBN. In 2006, we got 11 nominations. The 13th Asian Television Awards is happening on December 11, 2008 at Hoten InterContinental, Middle Road, Singapore. |

GMA Wins Gold in Promax BDA Asia Awards
GMA 7 managed to win the only Gold for the Philippines in the recently concluded Promax BDO Asia Awards which was dominated by HBO, Disney Channel, ESPN, MTV and Discovery Channel. The Kapuso Network was awarded with a Promax Gold trophy for Best Public Service Announcement category for the GMA Network’s Haribon Seedlings advocacy TV plug. Dubbed, Haribons Road to 2020 Rainforestation, the ad likened homeless seedlings to orphaned human babies thirsting to be rekindled by Mother Earth. The advocacy does not only put forward a call to action, but also emphasizes the special connection between man and nature. The TV plug is directed to move viewers to save Philippine Rainforests. It forms part of GMA’s efforts with Haribon in line with the Networks Kapuso Para Sa Kalikasan advocacy. congrats! dili lang pang local. pang WORLD CLASS PA GMA's I-Witness bags Unicef, Popdev awards MANILA, Philippines – GMA Network's I-Witness won two awards recently – the 2008 ABU CASBAA Unicef Child Rights Awards and the 2008 Popdev Media Awards for Best TV Documentary. Jay Taruc and his team bagged the Unicef award for their "Batang Kalabaw," which tells the story of 14-year-old Cherilyn who acts as sole breadwinner for her family and parent to her five siblings. Cherily, along with her young friends, trek up and down the mountains of Agusan del Sur for more than six hours daily to carry logs weighing as much as 15 kilos. Out of 69 entries from 10 countries in Asia, the documentary "Batang Kalabaw" (Child Beasts of Burden) was chosen for the prestigious award this year for being "the best television programming on children's rights produced in the Asia-Pacific region." This is the second I-Witness episode that won this award following the episode “Selda Inosente” (Angels in Prison) hosted by Kara David that won in 2003. The documentary had also previously received a Certificate for Creative Excellence at the 2008 US International Film and Video Festival and the 2008 Catholic Mass Media Awards. The awarding ceremony was held on November 24 in The Westin Resort in Bali, Indonesia. Sandra Aguinaldo and her team bagged the Popdev Media Award for "Nanay na si Nene" for its outstanding contribution in promoting awareness about the population problems in the country today. Besting 406 entries in its category, Aguinaldo’s documentary documented the lives of two very young mothers and the difficulties as they faced of having children at such an early age. Barely able to take care of herself, 13-year old Lealyn gave birth to twins and could only feed her babies water and sugar. Belinda, 14, when she five months pregnant, could not afford prenatal care or checkups with an obstetrician-gynecologist. Aguinaldo also discussed the factors that cause early pregnancies in teens and how they could be prevented with *** and reproductive health education. The documentary was chosen for the prestigious award by an elite panel of organizations from the development and journalism communities, as well as government agencies and private groups. The awarding ceremony was held on November 26 at the Mandarin Oriental Suites in Cubao, Quezon City. Now on its fourth year, the annual Popdev Media Awards was conducted by the Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) with the support of the United Nations Population Fund to honor outstanding and responsible journalism on population and development. - GMANews.TV |
