Default Beijing Olympics 2008 - FIBA - Which Teams to watch...

Here are the teams that will slug it out in the coming 2008 Olympics in Beijing Next Year...
Our very own RP Team didn't make it, too bad, but At least looking on the bright side, I don't think
our team or Iran can beat any of the teams listed below anyway, hehe...

Two USA beaters, Spain and Argentina are already in, that should make the tournament exciting.

2008 Olympics Qualifying Team

1. Host China
2. 2006 World Championships winner Spain
3. 2007 FIBA Africa winner Angola
4. 2007 FIBA Americas winner USA
5. 2007 FIBA Americas 2nd place Argentina
6. 2007 FIBA Asia winner Iran
7. 2007 FIBA Oceania winner Australia
8. Eurobasket 2007 winner Russia*
9. Eurobasket 2007 3rd place Lithuania*
10. 2008 Qualifier
11. 2008 Qualifier
12. 2008 Qualifier

* There are 3 remaining slots available, which 3 remaining teams would you prefer joining the FIBA Olympics next year?
To make the tournament worth watching...[br]Posted on: September 06, 2007, 11:17:40 PM_________________________________________________I 'll hope the remaining 3 teams would be all European Teams, to really test the USA Team strength, as they claim to be the best players in the world :

For me, I hope these teams make it in the Olympics :

1. Greece - Do I need to explain? Just watch the replay of last year's FIBA World, hehe
2. Croatia - Wow, this team is really tall, they upsetted Spain in the Elimination round of Eurobasket...
3. Germany - Nowitzki
4. Slovenia - The Darkhorse of Eurobasket 2007

I think, Spain, Argentina, Lithuania and France are the four major teams thats very capable of beating the U.S. Team if caught on a bad night.

The Qualifying tournament will be held a month before the Olympics, that will be on July, 2008, the venue is still being discussed. This is actually a new format FIBA has employed, and I think its fair enough, so at least, low tier teams would be limited in the Olympics and thus more powerhouse teams will be included, unlike in the last Olympics wherein a lot of low tier teams qualified, giving us a lot of blow out games. But I don't think its gonna happen next year in Beijing...

Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tourney Team ( To be held July 2008 )
1. 2007 FIBA Africa 2nd place Cameroon
2. 2007 FIBA Africa 3rd place Cape Verde
3. 2007 FIBA Americas 3rd place Puerto Rico
4. 2007 FIBA Americas 4th place Brazil
5. 2007 FIBA Americas 5th place Canada
6. 2007 FIBA Asia 2nd place Lebanon
7. 2007 FIBA Asia 3rd place Korea
8. 2007 FIBA Oceania 2nd place New Zealand
9. Eurobasket 2007 4th place* Greece
10. Eurobasket 2007 5th place* Croatia
11. Eurobasket 2007 6th place* Germany
12. Eurobasket 2007 7th place* Slovenia

Only three teams out of these twelve will qualify for Beijing 2008...
