jumper 2-3, Clear CMOS config? when you put the jumper in this setting and try to boot, you can't. it will send electric pulses to your boards eeprom to clear your CMOS of the settings you changed. the settings will return to their stocks.
but when the pc is running and you pull out your jumper and change it. thats a different story. in my case, when i tried it with my board, i get a crash and i have to properly clear my CMOS. |

that's right.
if your mobo manual says that jumper 2-3 is equivalent to clearing CMOS, you cannot boot your system with that position because the CMOS circuitry is effectively grounded. but if your system is still able to boot at that clear CMOS position, then that tells you that something is wrong with the CMOS circuitry and that's why you have those kinds of problems after boot up. medyo nayabag na ba. |

Defective logic board, or corrupted firmware zone. This is the hardest to repair of all HD troubles. The kala-kala or knocking sound is produced by the Actuator Arm's constantly hitting the side stops in its effort to read the firmware zone so that the HD can be initialized. And when the firmware modules are indeed unreadable/corrupted, you need to write a fresh copy of it onto the service area of the platter, or you can attempt to repair the corrupted modules (but only if you can access and view them). |

those beeps mean some sectors are very hard to read. i mean, it takes a long time to read by the HD Controller, sending a timeout signal.
these hard-to-read sectors are worn out sectors but not yet physically bad, taking more than 500 milliseconds to read by the heads. and if these weak sectors are not removed soon, these will trigger further wear on the heads assembly, etc. here are the typical sector read times: less than 50 ms --- top condition, very fast disk access less than 150 ms --- satisfactory condition, not a cause of concern, expected to last very long hours of service greater than 150 ms but less than 500 ms --- unreliable on read/write, causes the HD to overheat on long hours of use due to the high number of read retries and causes controller timeout, sign of wear on electomagnetic coating greater than 500 ms --- extreme wear, needs to be remapped out of OS use very soon before it causes further HD damage greater than 3000 ms --- BAD SECTOR, causing the HD to hang due to failure to carry out read/write operation So how do you repair HD so it could last long? Erase all sectors giving read times greater than 150 ms, not just the bad sectors. You see, simply erasing bad sectors is only a quick fix because you are still left with sectors giving read times from 150 ms and above. That is why you need specialized tools before you can do professional type of HD repair. |

i have an MSI mobo, the problem is that when i start installing XP OS it will suddenly stop and hang. it is a P3 mobo. i tried to test the CPU and other Dimms and its ok, only the MSI mobo has a problem . . .
can you diagnose and repair for this kind of problem, coz im interseted |

yes, i can.
but i suggest you try installing Win98 instead of XP to rule out any XP-related issue with your mobo. reformat your HD, then do a clean install of Win98. If everything goes fine, it's not a mobo prob. |

Guys, the brilliance of mr Novabos here again showed it well. My Maxtor 40GB HDD has more than just a track 0 error on it plus mag bad sectors too (as what he explained it before). I tried reformatting it over and over again and yet it cant accept the data i'm copying. when i let bossing chack and repair my HDD, it was working perfectly well...i dont how he did it but his geniusness shows it all... tanks again bossing.. you save my @$$ again... |
