Philippine Furniture - Export Products

Philippine furniture export products are recognized in the world market for exquisite craftmanship that is a successful result of modern technology combined with the Filipino's innate creativity.

Dubbed as the "Milan of Asia," the Philippines ranks as one of the world's best exporters of unique, fine, yet cost-competitive furniture - from the traditional to the casual contemporary to the highly experimental.

    Philippines Furniture: Secrets to Success

The Philippine furniture industry significantly benefits from the country's rich craft heritage, eclectic influences, variety of locally available materials, and artisans with excellent design flair and deft hands.

These are just some of the key reasons that drive the industry's growth and increasing demand for its products.

Philippines Furniture: From Rattan to Mixed Media

From its prime position as the major source of creatively-designed wicker and rattan furniture, the Philippine furniture industry has successfully diversified into stone, wood, metal, bamboo, plastic, leather and mixed media furniture collections.

Rattan furniture continues to control the biggest share of the industry, followed by wood. Metal or wrought iron, combined with wicker and other materials (such as leather, wood, stone, coconut shell) enjoy a growind demand among international buyers.

    Philippines Furniture: Dynamic Industry

The industry is dominated by small to medium privately owned furniture manufacturers that specialize in particular market niches. There are about 16,000 firms that are registered. Many are single proprietorships and family-owned.

While majority of the firms are wholly-owned and managed by Filipinos, there are several number of companies that are partly owned by foreign investors (including American, British, German, Australian, Japanese, Belgian, French, Spanish)

Cebu, Metro Manila and Pampanga are the three major centers for Philippines furniture industry. Cebu is the base of larger rattan manufacturers and contribute at least 60% to total furniture exports.

The top export markets for Philippine furniture are: USA, Japan, France, Netherlands, and UK.

Maybe because the peso is getting stonger, their budget on the two buildings must have been affected. They earn in dollars and will spend in peso on those buildings. They must have lost 10% on their budget already based on the current conversion (55+ to 49+)

Cebu’s furniture makers to display works in CICC
    Sun-Star
    Tuesday, October 03, 2006

SOME 25 furniture companies have committed to voluntarily furnish the rooms of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) and Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit this December.

“It will highlight the best of Cebu’s furniture industry,” said Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) member unit head Marlene Bedia.

In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Bedia said the layout of the rooms will be left to the discretion of the companies.

The companies will be pulling out the furniture from their respective showrooms, while others will be manufacturing some of its designs.

Bedia said the designs will be more “generic, simple, yet professional.”

The furniture will include some three-sitter chairs, two big chairs, tables and a coffee stand, among others.

    Contribution

“This is the industry’s private contribution for the Asean summit,” Bedia said.

However, Bedia did not disclose the names of the companies for security measures, and because “this is not intended for commercial purposes.”

“Most of these Asean members are among our competitors, so even the lay-out of each room is considered confidential,” she said.

However, Bedia is optimistic the companies are “all-set” to design the rooms assigned to them and hopefully “boost” the industry.

In an earlier interview, CFIF president Michael Basubas said the Asean summit will be a “contributory factor” to the growth of the local furniture industry.

“It’s our chance to put our best foot forward,” he said

Bedia said CFIF, together with the National Organizing Committee, are discussing plans to ensure that the CICC’s “look” is ready for the summit, while providing extra precautions for local players in the industry. (MMM)
