    Default The iStorya BookSwap Thread

This is part of a larger experiment I want to conduct (or perhaps just beginning to conduct) on Collaborative Consumption.

This is a bookswap thread. I don't think it's the first ever book swapping thread/idea in iStorya.net, but nonetheless, I want to (re)start it now.

The idea is very simple--I have books that I have finished reading, and are just collecting dust. Someone may want to read them. But, I don't want to list down my books here--I can choose to just list down books I want to share, and then make another list of books I want to read.

Eventually, to make sure that an acceptable level of risk and trust is developed within the structure, a points system will be devised so that points shall be awarded per participant, so that those who take care of the swapped books (i.e. returned without damage, etc.) will earn more points and thus establish more trust among the members of the swap group. Demerits can also be applied for issues such as lack of punctuality when setting swap appointments etc.

I can go on and on about this idea, but right now, I just want to swap!

So here is the book I want to "release" for swap:

"Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden

Books I am looking for, to match this swap:
"The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand (or any other Ayn Rand book)

Just a test. I want to know if anyone else is interested in this idea. Please post your thoughts in this thread.

This is nice. I'll post my books when I get home.

Initially, to be doable, the plan has to be confined within a specific locality, in this case, within Cebu City, so that it would be easier to conduct the swaps, i.e. real-world meetups for the actual exchange of books. A more sophisticated system can later be designed and made, that allows the participants to send via mail/courier, the said books they want to swap. An even more sophisticated system would be one that perhaps involves:

    a) phone apps
    b) a widget/app embedded within iStorya.net (or a FaceBook group) that would allow a faster means to display your own books available to be borrowed, or place "bids" on books that someone has and you want to borrow/swap with.
    c) (I don't know if possible, but this is really nice) strike a deal with a local courier agency (i.e. LBC) that will allow for a system by which they will pick up your book from your doorstep and also deliver books to your doorstep (they have motorcycle delivery systems right?)

The purpose of this thread therefore, is just a pilot test post that would consist of posts made by iStorya.net members who have books they have already read, and are willing to "loan out" provided that they can also borrow a book they like from someone else.

These are ideas I'm experimenting on, that conform to the concept of Collaborative Consumption. I am trying to figure out if people in Cebu (particularly the tech and internet savvy) are ready for such schemes/practices.

Wala raba. You listed down your books that you want to borrow, and stated that you have Ayn Rand's "Fountainhead", "the Anthem" and "Atlas Shrugged" for swapping. So I think we can structure our posts like this:

    CHINAMORENA

Books I have available for swap:
    1. The Fountainhead - Ayn R
    2. Atlas Shrugged -
    3. The Anthem

    Books I want to read:
    1. anything by Murakami (except Norwegian Wood, After Dark ug Kafka)
    2. into the wild- Jon Krakauer
    3. on the road -jack kerouac
    4. the history of love- nicole krauss
    5. anything by Jonathan Safran Foer

So, those who want to participate, just list down your "borrowable" books (for lack of a better term..."for swap" or "for release" also sounds good) and your wishlist in this format above.

You can still list down your Coelho and Kundera books here--someone might be interested in them, and if they have books you want to read, then perhaps you don't even need to buy new ones soon.
