lens hood nlng arun protectionan ug samotang ka lawum.hehe mao man akung gamiton nya walay filter2x pareho ingn nila. gamit pod ang hood nku kay naa man ko pgka danghag gd usahay kadungog ko nga naai mo "boogsh!" sus pag lingi nku may gni ang plastic ras hood dili ang lawas sa lens.

ako ra pod ni opinion bai tungod skng ka danghag pod mao gi lahos nkus palit ug hood.

i use to have a UV filter on my 50mm kay lagi newbie pa intawn, thinking that it will protect the lens from scratches and dust and others... but i ended up causing my pix to have more glare 'til i ask a friend about the problem and he simply told me to remove the filter and no more glare... hehehe
...sayang ang sharpness sa 50mm if u'l add another cheap glass over a sharp lens...

funny I have UV filters in all of my lens and I get sharp pics.... I think it's the type of UV filter you were using.

aside from protection, lens hoods helps with light spills or side flares. Like when you are taking pics with the a bright light on your sides or even overhead. The principle there is like when you are in out in a sunny day and you try to look for someone afar. You immediately put your palm on your eyebrows. (like hand salute) to make a shade on your eyes so you can see better.

thanks primal, that's true, lens hood is very useful. i think with or without UV filter, as long as you glass is clean and no defects, you can have a crisp image. filters only enhances the effect of the captured surroundings. i think i might add few filters like ND for landscape and some closeup filters..^____^
