Tips for Site Optimization:

While planning your website promotion strategy, it is wise to remember that the search engines are very capable of sniffing out when someone is trying to trick or deceive them. A certain road to disaster is to consciously try to fool search engines into giving you a better listing. While this may work for a short period of time, invariably the scheme is found out and the offending site is severely penalized or even banned altogether. Most of us are not, however, intentionally engaged in trying to scam search engines. Even so, there are mistakes that an honest user can make which are nonetheless interpreted as intentional and malicious behavior. Here are some of the things you can do to ensure that you will never be penalized or banned by the search engines. First and most important, don't over-submit your site. The search engines each have their own procedures and lead times for adding new sites to their indices. Some may immediately add you while others may take months to list your site, so be patient.

All links with "id" as a parameter in dynamic URLs will be ignored by Google.

I'd like to take this opportunity to ask if anyone has ever sumbmitted his web site to the Google directory and got accepted?

I've been waiting for ages for mine to be accepted by Google and yet no one seems to be active in the category (Google Directory - Regional > Asia > Philippines > Provinces > Cebu > Business and Economy > Manufacturing > Fashion Accessories) I submitted to. It's the same list for months on end. I'm afraid to resubmit for fear of getting blocked.

Tell us tips on how to get accepted by directory lists, Google in particular. Is it pure luck that some web sites get accepted? There's even a ranking geocities web site in my chosen directory. Imagine how many fashion accessories web sites there are in Cebu and only eight were accepted by Google. It's the same list for several months now. I'm beginning to suspect that some unfair person has taken hold of this area of the directory or on the other hand, nobody is attending to it at all.

i have a tip for you....
Google webmasters and sitemaps.... its a feature for webmasters by google.
Read the documentation and some instructions how to use it.

oh by the way... check yoursite using google commands.
Try this this on the google field
cache:http://yourdomain.com

This is how the google see in your site, this is like a "SNAPSHOT" of your website stored in their cache on the google server... hehehe...hehee..
oh well.. goodluck with that.

I've read about sitemaps. It is just a guide for GoogleBot to rank the importance of your web pages with its hierarchial relation to other pages within your web site. It is also to ensure a thorough crawl of the whole web site and indicate which pages were modified when and how often. It will have little effect on the ranking of the web site.

On the other hand, it is useful at monitoring the effectivity of your optimization.

Ya, same thing with other SE including google. of course based on cache.

by the way....In google, they had this feature:
They allow users to remove the old cache and links of course google won't remove the old cache/link if the pages are still active on their webserver.

dbpassword, google directory is using dmoz.org. It's the first place you want to submit your website before any other else because a couple of other major or secondary search engines use them for their directory, such as google.

dmoz.org's editors are real people, thus, sometimes if you have SE tricks like hidden texts, dili sila ganahan ana. Dili ni sila crawlers or bots, these are real people mao mas careful gyud ka when submitting to dmoz.

Sa akong experience as newbies sa SEO, I used "Addweb Website Promoter" and I submit my website every month and manual submission every 15 days... after 2 months na index ra jud ko sa google ug ang popularity is 33 and now nahimo na 29... then nag gamit pod ko ug google sitemap and blogs...
