Michael Douglas has stepped into some of the biggest--or should that be tiniest?--shoes of his career.

The two-time Academy Award-winning actor will join director Edgar Wright and Paul Rudd in Marvel's "Ant-Man," hitting theaters July 31, 2015.

"With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. "We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

The legendary actor, who earned an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role for his iconic portrayal of Gordon Gecko in "Wall Street," has also starred in numerous modern classics including "Basic Instinct," "Fatal Attraction," "The Game," "Wonder Boys," "Traffic" and many more. In addition to acting, Douglas has also served as Producer and Executive Producer on a number of films including "Romancing the Stone," John Carpenter's "Starman" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," for which he also won an Academy Award for Best Picture. Most recently, Douglas earned a Golden Globe and his first Primetime Emmy Award for his role as legendary entertainer Liberace in the HBO original film "Behind the Candelabra."

Douglas will star as Hank Pym, who first appeared in TALES TO ASTONISH #27 (Jan. 1962), with Rudd starring as Scott Lang in the film.

Matt Gerald has joined the cast of Marvel’s Ant-Man for director Edgar Wright. The actor recently played 'White Power Dave' opposite Sir Ben Kingsley in the Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King, which featured on Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray. However, the casting report fails to acknowledge Gerald's minor role in the short film. It is currently unknown if he will be reprising his character from the short.

Gerald's credits include Avatar, Escape Plan, Dexter and Hawaii Five-O.

Marvel Studios is gearing up for production next month on its "Phase Three" launcher, Ant-Man, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is a movie which has been a long time coming, especially as it's been in the works before Iron Man blasted onto the big screen in 2008. Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded to such a great extent, Empire Magazine caught up with Kevin Feige to ask him whether or not the movie has been changed in order to reflect that. "A little bit. Not much. There's been a little bit of connective tissue that wouldn't have been there in in his draft ten years ago," he revealed. "We changed, frankly some of the MCU to accommodate this version of Ant-Man. Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar and with Ant-Man, going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for Avengers the first time. It was a bit of both in terms of his idea for the Ant-Man story influencing the birth of the MCU in the early films leading up to Avengers."

As for why Hank Pym - the original creator of Ultron in the comic books - isn't in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Feige explained: "It was two things - a story Edgar wanted to tell that we'll see with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, and now we're 11 films in, it's looking at the characters we've already introduced who already have the technology and the brains to do...certain things [Laughs]." He's obviously alluding to Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark there, an equally logical choice for the creator of Ultron in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As for whether Pym is the "original Tony Stark", he added, "He's certainly older. Original Tony Stark? In that he is an inventor and a scientist, but he has a very different demeanour that Tony and a very different ego, even when he was younger."

Finally, talk turned to the decision to cast Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, and Feige dropped a few very interesting hints about the Anchorman star's take on the character. "Look at that origin of the petty crook who comes into contact with a suit and does his best to make good, and then look at someone like Paul Rudd, who can do slightly unsavoury things like break into people's houses and still be charming and who you root for and whose redemption you will find satisfaction in."

just read that this morning. wow. they'll probably get a new director. what I'm wondering now is if the script will undergo an extensive change(Hank Pym as main character played by Paul Rudd) or remain mostly the same.
