average lifespan of labs is around 10 years above
depends how well you take care of them.

i suggested these breeds because they are low risk in having a confrontation with other people especially children. because they are very patient.

but as what ironwood said you have to study and understand the breed before jumping in. raising a dog takes time effort money and patience. some dogs doesnt do well if left alone and can be destructive. some dogs are aggressive with strangers. some dogs bark a lot.
look for a dog that is right for you. there are tons of information in google you can start there.

pugs have shorter life span at 13yrs...
bottomline really is not how long in terms of number per se...
but as to the "quality" time youve spent with your chi
... and that depends on your time to be alotted to your pet

    add to that distemper virus... its more dangerous;
it being having a lower % of survival cases and
higher % of transmitability... as it is airborne.

goodluck! may you find the right dog for you
I agree with Ironwood_Cebu 100%! Assess your life style and how much time you can devote to a dog. Remember, dogs are social/pack animals and bad behavior can develop if they are just left alone most of the time. Since you have allergies you may want to consider poodles or labradoodles...they do not shed, but need to be combed often. Another major consideration is your budget and the cost entailed in providing a healthy diet and medical care for your dog.

Dogs make wonderful companion animals! Good luck in your search.

i think with your preference of:

    1. keeping a dog indoors
    2. short-haired dogs (rhinitis issues)
    3. dogs with longer life span
    4. huggable/cuddly dogs
    5. dogs which consume less dogfood

i suggest you get yourself a chihuahua as what another forumer here previously suggested! but always remember to do research on the breed before acquiring one. good luck! =)
