Belgian trade mission visit to PH may be cancelled

A VISIT of a high-level Belgian trade mission to the country, to be led by a member of the Belgian royal family next year, may not push through.

Brussels State Secretary for External Trade Cecile Jodogne told La Libre Belgique that “it will be difficult to ensure” that the high-level trade mission to be led by Princess Astrid to the Philippines in May 2017 would go ahead.”

Jodogne said she will call for the mission to the Philippines to be shifted to another country.

The report came after Duterte over the weekend made controversial remarks that drew parallels with the killing of Jews by German dictator Adolf Hitler during the Holocaust and his repeated tirades against the EU, United Nations, the US on the issue of human rights and extrajudicial killings amid his administration’s intensified campaign against the illegal drugs trade.

Duterte’s Hitler remarks drew a barrage of international criticism including from the EU.
