    WiFi uses CSMA/CA, there are no collisions. Nodes only transmit when they sense the channel is clear. If the channel is busy they backoff and start a timer to retransmit.

    Wired connections use CSMA/CD, there are collisions, when detected they backoff and start a random timer to retransmit.
