The flavor is really good... but only on the outside. Smoking is allowed inside the resto so this is not the place for me. That's all I can say

I have been a little slow on my food reviews lately and I am really sorry about that. Going back on track with my latest food exploits, I explored the Korean Cuisine just a few walks away from where I work. We headed out to Chosun Galbi, a Korean restaurant that is open to all! The place is truly spacious. Each table can hold up to 8 to 10 guests. They have VIP rooms too, for a more intimate and closed area. We headed out here cause they are open at this time of the day. It was around 10PM already and we needed some grub.

A lovely waitstaff greeted us when we arrived and ushered us to a small room. There was a marble table on the center and have four chairs. A small steel window was there as well with decorative lights to set the mood. At the center of the table was a steel equipment. I reckon it was used for cooking. It was for grilling meat. We ordered the Samgyupsal and Yukijang.

Korean Dishes 101:

Yukgaejang or Yukijang is a spicy, soup made from beef and other vegetables which is simmered together for a long time. This is a form of gomguk, or a thick soup which was served in Korean royal court cuisine. Ohhh somehow I felt privileged! LOL
Samgyeopsal is a very popular Korean dish. Consists of thick, fatty slices of pork belly meat. Cooked on the grill by diners and is commonly served as an evening meal.
Ssamjang consists of chili paste. Used with vegetable accompaniments.
Gireumjang made with salt and sesame oil. Used when a diner wants to taste the cooked meat itself.

The staff came back with a liter of water and a lot of small bowls with veggies and whatnots. Suddenly, the table grew smaller and smaller as she filled it with small bowls! They had pork medallions, slices of potato, onions and garlic ready for grilling. She arranged the grill and lighted up fire. The steel was already oiled and the fire came from a butane can.

Here are some of the vegetable side dishes. By the way, you can have unlimited refills! I'd try to make names for each set.

Kimchi, a traditional fermented Korean dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings.

There were a lot of side dishes and these were the only ones near where I sat. So pardon me for not covering everything. There would be a few bits and pieces down.

Fresh greens and a few chili!

Ssamjang upfront and the Gireumjang at the back.

The Yukijang was truly great! A lovely mix of mild spicy, soft meat and even a bit of noodles! A great way to start or end the meal.
My take on Samgyeopsal:

Cucumber + Dilis = Love! ♥

The one with Dilis was my favorite! I think we asked for refills twice! Ha! It was really great! The taste was a mix of everything! You get crunchy, crisp, spicy one time or salty, soft the next. Entertaining and ultimately satisfying. This was my first visit and truly not the last. What I love about these types of food is that you get so full however you never feel a sense of umay! Just like when we had Shabu-Shabu. I will see you soon, Samgyeopsal!

Price:
Samgyeopsal - Php250
Yukijang - Php250

Not bad for a three person dinner.

Since the time I spotted this place back when I was craving for some Ginabot one hypertensive night. I failed to blog about them under my "Coming Soon" short posts. In any case, pardon my lack of time management skills. After almost a few weeks from that night, we decided to check if they are open last Friday. Sampyupsal for dinner is always a foolproof way to end the day.

I have had my Samgyupsal from my previous post and I had to share the experience with a good friend of mine. We headed out to Yum Yum Baboy to try the place out and see if they are up to par with what I had in Chosun Galbi

. The name does sound appetizing and I do hope they outlive their brand name: YUM YUM!

First off: It is really affordable here! One serving of Sampyupsal is only Php150! Woot! Where in the world can you find this low of a price? Maybe in Korea yeah? This would have to be one of the best way to start our first visit. We ordered one of each and went all healthy with just water which they served when we got seated. The staff greeted us with beaming smiles. That's really nice of them and it felt authentic too! I love friendly waitstaff, not only does that count for a good reason to come by again it also proves that they really value you as a customer! Great job at that!

Our assigned staff started filling our tables with the side dishes, plates and all that jazz. They had this small towelette wrapped in sealed plastic. Curious as a cat, I checked it out wondering what it was. It was a moist towel for you to wipe your hand as this cuisine can get really messy. That was a lovely touch, if I may add!

Here are the side dishes, you can ask for refills which are by the way UNLIMITED!

I liked this one because of the added crunch.

Fresh Iceberg Lettuce to wrap the meat and the veggies.

Each set includes all the side dishes above and 5 slices of pork belly, slices of onions and garlic. The belly had a good mix of lean meat and fat. Om noms!

This is our 2 orders of Sampgyupsal! 10 slices of meat! Weee~
We sprinkled a bit of black pepper to add taste and started to grill the meat along with the spices! The grilling process begins. The grill gets its fuel from a gas line which extends below each table. A table can accommodate up to 4 guests and they have long tables as well that seats 8 guests! On the ground floor, there are a few tables and there are tables upstairs.

While we were waiting for the meat to cook, the Korean owner helped us with our meat! She used the meat scissors to cut them in smaller pieces and even turned them over to cook evenly! Wow, I didn't expect that! It was a surprise because she also caters to non-Korean guests which was truly appreciated!

After the meat is cooked, you go crazy with the combinations using the side dishes and the condiments.

What happened after? Clean bowls of plate and the chili still intact on the Lettuce basket. The owner asked before we left, "Yum, yum?" My friend and I exclaimed, "YUM YUM YUM!!"
