It pisses me off to hear people say this. Please read the entire thread. The only people who have the right to say this are Physicists especially the ones doing research on Quantum Gravity. Any ordinary person doesn't have the right to say String theory is BS even me. Let's just all keep and open mind to string theory because it could one day change the course of the history of science. Peace! hehehe

I think it's a bit to naive of them to think that way. With my infant experience in Physics, physical concepts of nature always have mathematical elegance. And in the history of physics, anything that has mathematical elegance has a profound effect in physics. Take for example Joseph Fourier (I'm sure the electronics/electrical engineers know this guy), he was a mathematician. Without any ideas of application, he proved that a complex wave(eg. ECG,sound waves) can be decomposed into simpler waves which we now call fourier series. He didn't know what to use it for. All he knew was the elegant mathematics in it. And now it is very very important to physics and to engineering. Likewise in string theory, the theory as of now is really mathematically elegant. That is why many Nobel Prize winners in Physics are working on it. The challenged is to bring the mathematics out to reality. Who knows, in 20-40 years, maybe stargate, warp drize, free energy will be a reality. And we will really become a highly advanced race. hehehe! only faith in science and time will tell. hehehehe

Since the mid-1980s, the leading contender for a grand unifying theoryhas been string theory. The idea is deceptively simple: At the core of every particle in the universe is a tiny thread of energy. Each of these filaments vibrates like a violin string, and its rate of vibration determines its vital characteristics, or tone. There are neutrino strings and electron strings, photon strings and graviton strings. When played together, they compose the symphony of the universe. Or at least, that's the theory.
There's a problem, though. The strings have too much range. So much, in fact, that for string theory to agree with the established laws of physics and mathematics, there must be not three but at least ten dimensions (including time) that are curled up and tucked away. And because each of these multidimensional landscapes requires a different string tuning, there are potentially billions and billions of different versions of string theory relating to billions and billions of different universes.
Then there's the problem of testing string theory. That's how science works. We hypothesize, then we test. And if a hypothesis passes muster, it becomes law. But the strings that supposedly make up our universe are so infinitesimal--one string is to an atom as a single atom is to the entire solar system--that critics argue that we may never be able to build a collider powerful enough to find them, even the collider that Arkani-Hamed stays up all night thinking about.
So here's the latest tally: Number of years since string theory became dominant: 20. Number of potential string-theory solutions: 10500 (the number of atoms in the galaxy squared and then squared again). Number of testable theories: 0. In other words, Arkani-Hamed better be at least partially right, because the natives are getting restless.

The String theory explains how quantum physics works in the same universe as Newtonian physics..because of the way it pans out, it means there are whole slices of existence that we werent previously aware of. Humans have the ability to detect 4 dimensions, so thats all we can ever possibly know...the others are all around us, but because we have a nose, eyes, ears, mouth, and skin to receive information, it may not be possible to perceive any other demensions". Referenced from Will Storr vs. the Supernatural. 2006

In short, since energy cannot be created or destroyed, it very well could be that when a person dies, the biological energy, released from the contraints of the human body, may be able to feel, sense, live in these other demensions provided by string theory. VIbrations within these strings may possibly be able to be manipulated by large amounts or a significant amount natural energies becoming intertwined periodically; thus allowing a glimpse of the other demensions.

That is how you can understand the concept that Heaven and Hell is just out of our reach. As long as the Kinetics energy which is our soul, is contained in the carbon based container which is our body; it can not step through that next dimensional existence. We are basically a walking battery, which holds the Kinetic energy that is our essence, restricted to this 3rd dimensional reality.

There could be infinite dimensions just within the reach of our finger tips. Infinite beings standing in the same space you stand, and each unaware of the existence of the others. Or are they aware and just watch us?

You could be right. Or you could be wrong. If you analyze death scientifically, energy contained in the body upon death is returned to the universe through chemical potential energy. There is really no way of measuring something that is preserved after death which you say is manifested in string theory.

String theory was conceived by some very abstract mathematical framework. People who do not study it at the level of theoretical physicists will just go crazy trying to understand the meaning behind the equations. The bottom line is that the conceptual explanations these theoretical physicists give us can be sometimes hard to grasp or could be misunderstood. Sometimes it is very tempting to attached some spiritual meaning of all these concepts, I am guilty of this myself. But the truth is, we really don't know. We are just humans trying to understand the universe. But then again, we could all be wrong or right.

String theory could be just another accurate approximation of the workings of the physical universe. This is what I learned from David Gross during his talk at USC. He said that new theories that are proven to be worthy of recognition are just better approximations of existing ones. Just as Einstein's General Relativity is way better approximation of Newtonian mechanics. =)

its really ok.. we are all free to believe what we believe since most are non-scientists. But like you, I also have a similar belief to what you said. hehehe! But as a scientist myself, I must be very scientific with everything so that I will succeed. heheh

interesting comment.. heheheh! kay ang Department of Physics sa USC is rethinking of what course to give commerce students sa USC. Normally, it is Nat. Sci. But it turns out, most students are not very interested. However, if the course were to be on the History of Physics from Aristotle to String theory then it would be interesting. Lingaw gyud hinuon tuod, pero everyone needs to know the basics before we can indulge on more advanced matters like string theory. hihihih
