Default The Real Test of A Programmer...

...is to be most productive with whatever is in front of him. May it be Java, C, .Net, ROR, PHP, etc...

With whatever tool, framework, 3rd party library, etc etc etc...

-----

It's not a battle of which language is better or which framework is better. The real test is how a programmer can adapt to any system, any framework, any tool at a given time and deadline. How fast and efficient one can learn the new language or framework and get things done and catch up on deadlines.

In the real world, business applications are complex. It is usually a combination of platforms and systems. You can't say - "I can't work on that part coz I don't know Hibernate or C++ or Unix...". Sometimes you don't have any choice but to learn it.

Just a little glimpse of what's out there.

Yes, it doesn't matter what language to use, but the language has to meet the objectives based on your proposal. It's possible to combine different systems as long as the exact protocols or ports are implemented well.

correct!

New programmers usually think Java vs. C#? PHP vs. Python vs. ROR? .Net vs. J2EE? Linux/Unix vs. Windows?

In the real world ang pagpili ug language or career sa programming usually dictated sa sweldo, hiring, location, client, and other factors. Very rarely will your preference for a programming language be considered. It's your boss and your client who will tell you what to use. Unless you're the boss or the client.

So dapat mag-anad ta ug batasan nga mu-excel bisag unsay tool or platform ipa-gamit sa atu-a.
1. How fast can you adapt to a new tool?
2. How good are your Google skills?
3. How fast can you read and comprehend?
4. How good are your testing skills? Develop the habit of finding ways to break your own code. Never depend on QA!
5. Practice design patterns.

bitaw sakto jud na, kay pag-ari gani nako sa industry, lahi gani nga programming language ang gigamit diri kaysa kadto nag college pa ko, then dali ra man siya, kay every programming language has similarities ra man sad, then every database pud naa pud similarities...so nonsense jud nga mag-away kun unsa ang maau nga programming language.....

if you meet expectations = you get a 5% raise

if you go above what is expected you get more..

no Dev. tool is better than the other when it gets the job done correctly

let's be realistic. You magnitude of productivity is not same if you are expert in one tool and you are not with other tool.

learning and adoption is not equivalent to productivity either.

Moral of the story -- you cant have it all. Just focus in few and be an expert of that and you will be the most productive.
