CHICAGO, Illinois – A 52-year-old Filipina won the jackpot at a suburban casino in Elgin, Illinois but quickly run out of luck when she tried to collect her winnings.

Cristina V. Franquia of 907 Shorewood Drive in suburban Bartlett, Illinois was charged with felony for possessing fraudulent identification cards.

Authorities were alerted on June 8 when an 83-year-old man also from Bartlett tried to collect Franquia’s jackpot at the Grand Victoria Casino.

When police asked for Franquia’s identification, she flashed two IDs – a resident alien card (Green card) and a Social Security card – which both turned out to be fake.

Franquia admitted to police investigators that she received the cards from a man named only as “Amigo" several years ago for free.

Police said however, that even if the ID’s were authentic, Franquia would still not be able to collect her winnings because her name was in the “banned" list of the casino.

According to gaming officials, winnings of those placed in the banned list would automatically go to charity.

It was not revealed how much Franquia won.

During a court hearing on June 9, Franquia, who spoke through a Tagalog interpreter, was told that she could be deported to the Philippines if she pleads guilty or is found guilty of the charges.

She is now free after posting a $1,500 bond.

Franquia is due to appear in court on June 26 before Judge Grant Wagner of Kane County 16th Judicial District in St. Charles, Illinois. - GMANews.TV
