If you really want to go cheap, the prices of 300D has gone down, price is now comparable to a PnS cam.
Word of advice, invest more on the lens and not on the DSLR body, the bodies change every year, mag lisod ka ug apas. |

I'll be gettin the Nikon D80 with 18-200mm F3.5 - 6.3 DC AF Zoom Lens. I have talked to a sales person from a local camera shop and said its better than its current rival Canon EOS 30D. Need advice still from you guys.

Nikon D80's: Cheaper, 10MP, Self-Timer 2/5/10/20 secs, nangita pako lain... Canon 30D's: Canon DiGiC II CMOS Sensor!!! 1/8000 shutter speed, 5 fps! Compact Flash storage! Comparing both, if I were to choose, ill stick with Canon. Nikon's Sony CCD sensor can produce good colors saturation, but not enough against Canon's DiGiC II especially at low light (ISO 800 and 1600). A very bright sunny day, 1/8000s is kinda useful. 10MP? I'm not sure about this but 2MP difference not really that big, a lot of PROs are still using Canon 300D with only 6MP, magazine cover and billboard ready images. Sports photography? 30D's 5fps, its that fast if you can't afford the 1D MkII N. hehehe... SD card is just too small for me, a bit expensive and limted capacity. With CF card, you'll have it standard to all dSLR camera's, you can get up to 32-64GB of storage! Self-Timer, well if you are into SELF-PORTRAIT kind of photography, then ok kaayo ni nimo. heheh... Good luck!!! - edited... "Sony CMOS" to "Sony CCD" |

If you shoot mostly with ISO < 800 .. go for nikon. I already have invested on Canon glass .. and I'm a sucker for low light shooting so I go for higher ISO low noise performance at 800-1600 plus a fast lens, thats why I'm sticking to Canon. The CCD cant beat CMOS in terms of noise in high ISO settings.
Your camera really have to depend on your style of shooting. |

which makes it in the running with the 400D. For comparison sake... the 30D's opponent is the D200. Though in some instances the D80 does perform betterthan the 30D. Like the D80's 10mp vs. the 30D's 8. And also a better buffer as shown here in 30 seconds of continous shooting... ![]() Canon EOS 30D JPEG Standard - 131 frames (4.85 fps initial burst of 117 frames) ![]() Canon EOS 30D JPEG Fine - 78 frames (4.85 fps initial burst of 41 frames) Canon EOS 30D JPEG continuous (Standard then Fine); MP3 1,342 KB ![]() Nikon D80 JPEG Fine - 90 frames (3.0 fps continuous) Nikon D80 JPEG Fine: 614 KB MP3 By the way, for all those who have Pentax lenses lying around... my grandfather has plenty... the new 10 megapixel Pentax K10D just came out. And it's being positioned to go toe-to-toe with the 30D and D200. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/pentaxk10d/ But back to the topic ...Featurewise... the playing board is actually even.. just get whatever body fits your budget. It should last you a good 2~4 years of use... unless you're the type who likes to buy the latest technowonder that rolls out of the company's R&D labs ![]() The kit lens is okay. You're starting out, right? Why waste money going out to buy a better lens when you really don't know what to look for? Learn to understand optics first. In what ways are you limited by the kit lens if any at all? Then you can start investing in good lenses that answer those limitations and bests compliments your shooting style. Olympus and Sony are kinda pricy at the moment with limited stocks on lenses. The Canon and Nikon routes are pretty much the better way to go in Cebu in terms of price of gear and availibility of lenses, accessories, and service. Which way you go is up to you... because when the prints are done... does it really matter? My grandfather has been letting me use his Pentax film-slrs and excellent lenses so I might personally pick up a Pentax again if the K10's price is right. |
