by the way.. for those who have been on the fence on whether to buy the new 400D or wait for
the rumored 40D, read this...

I put a thread on a couple of weeks ago after I got some info from a Canon contact. However much of this info was incorrect and I reposted after I got further info and retracted my statement. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=20097443

Anyway, long story short, I was a bit embarrassed after the post, so I have been pushing for further information from up the Canon ladder.

I recieved a call just 20 minutes ago from one of the senior managers in Canon Hong Kong. We had a quick chat over current models and the new 400D, then I mentioned all the talk regarding a possible 40D and explained that I wanted more information on this. He had the information to hand as was aware that was what I was looking for. Details he gave me were.
- The unit current planned to be called 40D
- No prototype is even available yet
- Specification have not been confirmed
- Launch will not be this year, but nothing confirmed for when next year

- Canon are aware of the growing rumors but don't plan to make any public announcment at the moment

This has come from a very reliable source, the called was patched through to me from one of my vendors so I know this was the person he said he was.

I personally now trust nothing will be public until next year, so I can put my dreams of holding a 40D on hold and carry on a happy path with my 30D.

For those that want to know why I recieved the call, I was pushing my vendor very hard to get me the information I needed and they get a lot of business from me, over HK$35 Million a year, so were happy to help push for the info.
but don't take my word for it

@crash..this is kinda OT already but if you have taht 20K to burn for a camera maybe you should consider this behemoth 160 MegaPixel panorama 6x17 cam...bitaw share lang ko mga peeps =)

Seitz 6x17 Digital

This scan back 6x17 camera is extremely fast. The image results are comparable to a one-shot digital or film back. This is possible thanks to a very high read-out speed of 300 MB per second - 100x faster than for any existing scan back. The fastest exposure speed is 1/20'000 - or one second for the entire 6x17 scan at full resolution!

Compared to previous surface sensors, the sensitivity of the Seitz D3 sensor is significantly higher. Or compared to conventional scanning cameras, the sensitivity is increased by factor 100. This results in a very broad ISO/ASA range (equivalent) of 500 to 10,000, which makes this camera the perfect instrument for virtually all light situations. Our new stage selection technology allows to control sensitivity by selecting smaller or larger areas of the sensor. This means: additional sensitivity without any additional noise!
